Olympic is not senior level football lah. That one is U-21 gin nah kickabout. Senior level and U-21 level different. Even if U-21 SG can thrash Brazil U-21 10-0 no one will care

i am afraid this would not be the case. the brazil u-21 team more likely to thrash spore senior team than the other way round.

I'm just making an example. Most pple don't care about football outside senior level unless their own country makes it to the top of an international tournment. And for the record, our senior team can't even beat the Brazilian U-21 team

It was Olympics 1980 qualifiers. The winning goal was scored by Wong Kok Choy, not Fandhi Ahamd. China was among the top Asian footballing powers then. Singapore reached the qualifying final but collapsed 0:4 to Iran. In 1982, China almost reached World Cup Finals but lost to New Zealand 1:2 in a single-leg deathmatch play-off held on neutral ground in Singapore. After that, China went downhill. It was then South Korea began to climb uphill and consistently qualify for the World Cup from 1986 onward. In the 1970s, South Korea was just slightly above Thailand and Malaysia standards playing in the Merdeka Cup tournament. Japan was still considered a joke in football.

Japan became a powerhouse Asian side when the Jleague kicked off. They had players like Linekar, Leonardo, Zico all playing in the league. Arsene wenger was also manager of Grampus 8. So you want to be good, plonk in the money.

Delay at 10pm Ch 5

I am going RWS Livewire to watch live :p

That's total Bullshit. Our own National Team is playing a crucial match and they don't even bother to telecast live???? :oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

I know the number of supporters of our very own National Team is not that huge but this is inexcusable. There is no excuse for them not to broadcast it Live. Poor ratings is not an excuse, its our own national team we are talking about here. :oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

you are very right. I watch those games "live" on tv.
It was a very big win when sg beat china 1-0, Wong Kok Choy is the scorer.

I also remember another game, which singapore beat N. korea 3-1.

Japan only came to power in early 90s, when they started their pro J-league

Not exactly accurate. Before the 1990s, the difference between World Cup and Olympics football team is professional and amateur. FIFA registered professionals weren't allowed in Olympics. It made no difference to most Asian and African nations (including Singapore) then without registered professional leagues. Then it became U-23 + 3 wild cards (any age professional or not). I think that SEA Games football follows this system.

I think you know little about football. You quoted" Japan was still considered a joke in football". Did you know that Japan was the only Asian country to win an Olympic football bronze medal in 1968 .
In 70s South Korea was considered among the best team with Iran. What do you mean slightly above Thailand and Malaysia. You have not mentioned about Myanmar, known as Burma, they will definitely the best team in SEA.
Those were the days during 60s and 70s. You can say Singapore is slightly above Thailand. Indonesian was also strong during the 60s, maybe on par with Malaysia with Burma always on top until the 80s. From that onward, Thailand took over.
You can also say France was not a good team until the late 80s, and also to all those Arabic countries started to become household name at that time.

One step at a time. 15 years ago we can't even win the freaking SEA Games Football gold. Now we are 3 times champ of Asean, on par with Thailand. We almost qualify for the Asian Cup and we even beat Iran and drew with Australia. If we look at it that way, we're actually improving, it's a slow process, others are trying to improve as well but I think we're going the right direction
We are regressing, not improving. 15 years on, we still can't ein the SEA gold.

We were in the FINAL qualifying match for the 1980 Olympics. That was how good we were.
