Three Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) warrant officers were fined between S$1,000 to S$2,500 each on Nov. 8 following their involvement in a fight at a KTV outlet on Jun. 28.
According to The Straits Times (ST), the incident occurred at the Aviary KTV at The Chevrons recreational club near Boon Lay Way at around 8pm.
Ranger Ng Zhi Wei, 41, a second warrant officer, and third warrant officers Kevin Nicholas Simon, 34, and Kelvin Tang Chee Tat, 43, had pleaded guilty.Officer who started fight could not remember why
The judge said in court that the fight was partly caused by intoxication.
He highlighted that Ng could not even remember why he hit Simon and Tang despite confessing that he had started the fight.
The three men were celebrating Simon's farewell with other colleagues from the Singapore navy.
They had reached the outlet at around 3pm, and later consumed alcohol.
CCTV footage after 8pm showed Ng charging towards Tang and then punching him.
Both men fell down after Tang punched Ng back.
Simon then kicked Ng while he was still on the ground, before their colleagues stopped the fight.
The fight had toppled some tables and resulted in about 10 broken drinking glasses, reported ST.
Ng had told the police during investigations that he remembered someone insulting him, but could not remember charging towards Tang.
As Ng had started the fight, prosecutors had initially called for a "substantially higher" fine for him.
He was fined S$2,500 while Tang was fined S$1,500, and Simon S$1,000.
The Ministry of Defence previous shared with Mothership on Nov. 8 that the SAF will be taking disciplinary action against the three men.
