I hope more opposition parties will join in the fray and give the residents more choices besides just PAP and the unreliable SDP.

Vote splitting is the strategy of the pappies to win hands down in BB by election. It is either WP or SDP to take on pappies in BB; the other oppo parties are just drum beaters.

... Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said he was not surprised that Singapore Democratic Party chief Chee Soon Juan had indicated that he was contesting..."We welcome the contest...

This Botak Minister is a real gentleman ... he did not take the opportunity to lambast CSJ, which another pappies Minister would have done, for wanting to take part in the by election.

OK, since WP is not contesting, then SDP should be the only choice.

The other opposition parties should give way to SDP.

Should SDP win in the by election, it would let people see whether CSJ is another JBJ in Parliament or just a mouse. JBJ was able to hold debate with LKY in Parliament to make the latter angry and flustered.

I don't think there is any hope for Spore unless the LHL regime is booted out.

Even if Chee wins I'm pretty sure they will gang up to clobber him but maybe it will distract them from wasting our time & $.

To boot out pappies from Govt is like trying to move bukit timah hill. It will not budge. Just by importing more foreign shits and pappies hold on Govt is cast in stone.

A lot would depend on the candidate put up by the PAP. If PAP put up a "everybody has a car, we have two cars" type of candidate, then SDP votes will climb.

My worry is the impact of AHPETC saga. WP fxxk it up big time and kiasu constituents are less likely to vote for a party with no track records of running a TC. SDP used to run TCs when their members were elected as MPs, but there was donkey years ago under CST leadership.

Maybe SDP should rope this guy in as Consultant for BB TC, if elected. This guy is the Opposition Town Council 之霸

Time for the electorate to do the right thing and bring Chee to Parliment.,provide some balance back after last GE

... in reality, it is to show what CSJ can do in Parliament. To engage the pappies in robust debate or to sit quietly like obedient pappies MPs and let the Ministers regale with their cock and bull stories?

Re: Breaking News (20 March ) : SDP's Chee Soon Juan to contest Bukit Batok By-Electi

The writer talked cock, trying to garner support for akan datang pappies candidate in BB election...

1. The Tharman Factor .. Residents will vote for new MP but Botak is not the candidate. What Tharman factor? If BB residents already tulan with pappies, sending in LHL or even bringing back LKY to life to campaign for their MIW candidate will not help pappies to win.

2. The Low Thia Khiang Reason ..Rubbish, lah. LTK and CSJ are different species. LTK already sitting on the throne as MP; CSJ still floating in the air. Surely, when a feast is held, the King will be first to eat and all the kar kias will have to wait.

3. The Chiam See Tong Betrayal ... CSJ has mellowed and now more politically mature than before. What had happened is history.

4. The Rebel Image .. Sinkie land needs political rebels to tell pappies to change their policies that cause harm to the country. No rebel in Parliament and pappies will take sinkies for a ride on their merry go round.

5. Former SDP Members who Continue to Accuse Dr Chee as being Unethical... Whether unethical or not, it is just internal struggle in SDP. Two tigers cannot co-exist in any organisation. Accusations and m&d slinging among SDP members are not important to outsiders. No mudslinging among pappies members? Open your ears and you can get to hear lots of stories.

6. Using Foreign Media to run down Singapore ... Running down pappies is not the same as running down the country. Surely, CSJ loves sinapor as much as every one else but does he love pappies? Loving the country is not wrong and running down pappies is not wrong either.

7. The Goh Chok Tong Harassment ... This episode happened when CSJ was still politically immature and a show off. He had already paid dearly for his folly. Why still tied him to his past misdeed? Does it make him an unequal opponent to pappies candidate?

8. No Experience Running a Town Council .. LTK did not have experience in running TC when elected MP in Hougang but he has done well. So, does it mean CSJ will not make it in running TC in BB? This is pure nonsense to mislead BB residents that only pappies are fit to run TC.

9. Flip-Flopping .. In politics, flip flopping is the same as the pappies shifting their goal posts ... all part and parcel of the political game to survive. Nothing unusual in the political landscape. The biggest goal post shifted by pappies is their creation of GRC.

10. Western-style Liberal Democracy .. Voting for CSJ is not going to turn sinapor upside down ... it is just one more opposition MP to tell the pappies to wake up ... he alone cannot promote western style liberal democracy and freedoms in sinapor as if he is the King. He can only talk cock about it but in reality, it is just a side show.

Sg politics is a losing game, just like the casino itss designed so that u think u can win someday but all it does is lead u on a wild goose chase.its like the little yellow lemon tree,u turning ur head up and down, turn it turn turn it around and all that u can see is just the little yellow lemon tree.

Think about it,PAP controls temasek holdings,a 260 billion dollar conglomerate entity that controls nearly every major singaporean company, under its domain working for it,making money for it.nearly 30 percent of singapore's economy is controlled by temasek holdings, can u imagine how much economic power that is,how many sinkies work for temasek companies?probably hundreds of thousands.this is hundreds of thousands of sinkie families that are reliant and beholden to PAP.we are not talking about a single company here we are talking about a 260 billion dollar behemoth.u think PAP's willing to hand over that power?thats like asking CCP to give up control of china's economy and all the state owned enterprises worth hundreds of billions of dollars each.even pap ministers and mp million dollar salaries mean nothing.those are tiny bribes to protect the real deal, the real pie.politics is nothing without economic power, just like america is nothing without economic power.america secured its dominance in the twentieth century after world war ii.soon it will be china's turn.

Chee soo juan is nothing, just a mere distraction in the grand scheme of things.

even ISIS which is a political party needs economic power to survive and grow.they have a extensive network of oil fields, with thousands of engineers, technicians, smugglers and logistics in order to keep the money pipes flowing.ISIS makes 1.5 million a day from black market oil,how do you think they managed to fund a successful army and campaign so far?as JFK once said, political power means nothing without economic power.

SDP's Chee Soon Juan to contest Bukit Batok by-election

SINGAPORE - Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) chief Chee Soon Juan has been named as the party's candidate for the upcoming Bukit Batok by-election, a week after incumbent MP David Ong's shock resignation over personal indiscretion.

Dr Chee, 53, was formally introduced as the party's candidate by SDP member Sadasivam Veriyah, who contested the seat in last year's general election, before a walkabout in Bukit Batok on Sunday (March 20) morning.

If elected, Dr Chee said his priority will be to ensure the efficient and productive management of the town council. "The SDP's goal is to surpass current levels of performance of PAP-run town councils," he said.

He added that the SDP wants to pioneer a new model of town council management where residents are involved in the planning and running of the community.

The party will work towards a seamless takeover of the town council if it wins the by-election, he said, adding that it will put in place a transition team to be announced in due course. "This transition team will within three working days after the election handle the transfer of the town council," he told reporters.

He said the SDP will not engage a managing agent. "Instead, we will employ qualified and experienced professionals to be part of the team."

He added that he intends to hold regular townhall meetings to ask residents about their concerns and the issues to bring up in Parliament.

SDP party has wasted no time in staking its claim to contest the single- member constituency, walking the ground there a day after Mr Ong resigned on March 12 as MP and from the People’s Action Party (PAP), citing personal indiscretion. Mr Ong, 54, is believed to have had an extramarital affair with a woman who is a grassroots leader in his ward.

In the general election last year, Mr Sadasivam, a former teacher and ex-PAP member, represented SDP to contest Bukit Batok. He stood against Mr Ong but garnered only 26.4 per cent of the votes. Mr Ong won 73 per cent in the three-way race also contested by independent Samir Salim Neji.

Dr Chee has said the party was hoping for a one-on-one contest with the PAP in the Bukit Batok by-election for which a date has not been announced.

Workers’ Party (WP) chairman Sylvia Lim has confirmed that her party will not contest the by-election.

She cited two reasons: The WP is not active in that area, and the SDP had declared its intention to run, having contested the constituency in last year’s general election.

The Singaporeans First party also ruled out running for the seat, citing the SDP's prior contest there.

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said earlier the PAP had a few “very strong candidates” it was looking at to replace Mr Ong. Without revealing names, he told reporters on March 14: “When we finally announce the candidate, I can assure you it will be someone committed to the interest of Bukit Batok residents, and who will be able to also speak for them and Singaporeans in Parliament.”
