SPF : Our Mission

In this dynamic and rapidly changing environment, the Singapore Police Force’s core function is to protect the people who live in Singapore from crime and all manner of criminal harm. Crime in SPF’s context include terrorism and public disorder. In order to achieve this, we apply the strategies of Prevention, Deterrence and Detection. As crime is generally defined by the inclusion of two key ingredients: mens rea (the guilty mind), and actus rea (the guilty act), the twin strategies of Prevention and Deterrence act to deny these two key ingredients of crime; the former strategy stops the criminal intent from being formed, while the latter denies opportunities for the criminal act to be realised. The final strategy of Detection is a mitigating strategy that reduces the damage resulting from the crime. :p

SPF : Our Pledge

We pledge to be loyal and true to the Police service and the Republic of Singapore.
We pledge to uphold the law, to protect life and property, to prevent and detect crime.
We pledge to discharge our responsibilities without fear or favour, regardless of race, language or religion.
We pledge to strive for excellence, to be proactive and to exercise initiative in our duties.
We pledge to serve our community and our country and to be courteous and humane in our dealings with every fellowman. :p

Mission FAILED.

Pledge FAILED.

Can the law be upheld from a distance? Say 100m away from the nearest suspect?
They were proactive indeed, abandoning their patrol cars and running away at the slightest signs of trouble. This takes initiative.

what were they doing inside ambulance

1) putting on 3-4 underwear (if they can find them) feared of being sodomised
2) call their loved ones for last message (before they think they will perish), take last selfies.
3) pray SOC,SOF,Commandos will rappel from chinkhook to rescue them
4) blame their 'bad' luck to be on duty that night

quite funny seeing the first fews running out with hands in surrender position, LOL

In the aftermath of this riot, COI should also focus on he make-up of FRC officers who are the first police officers to respond to cases. Imo, they are THE most important oficers in the SPF. Not elite forces like CID, SOC etc. Why?

How a case escates or is suppressed depends to a great extend on the first officers at scene. You get young officers who are still wet behind the ears and expect them to control a hostile stuation? I dare say if the first officers at scene before the riot took place were lau chiaos and Indians, maybe case would not have escalated. You need to speak their lingo and have the bearing to let them know 'jiak beh kuay.' People at scene, especially troublemakers always make an assessment whether can 'makan' police officers and the situation. May be intoxicated but they are still conscious of their acts.

Similarly, if there is a case of domestic dispute/violence for officers to attend to. If the couple are in their 50s, how do you expect 20-something yr old officers to 'manage' the couple? But if an old timer abut the same age group responds to case, better chance he is able to convince the couple to settle their diffeences.

So once again, the police did the right thing. Not a single shot was fired! And the whole riot burnt itself out. Well done SPF!

Not too sure if I agree with your views, uncle.

While you are right the whole riot burnt itself out, I am more worried about the negative image about our SPF. Doing the right thing? Not so sure uncle. Let's wait for the COI. My greatest fear is that after this incident, other groups, locals or foreigners, may form the impression our SPF is impotent when overwhelmed.

If SPF cannot even handle this type of disorganized, impromptu mob, what if the 'mob' is something better planned and executed? SPF overrun?

It's a case of red tape and bullshit guidelines. In NS, do u know how difficult it is to escalate to an action of use of weapons?

I have mostly forgotten....but the gist is....

1) Issue 1st verbal warning. Stop! Stop!

2) If not heeded, load weapon.

3) Issue 2nd verbal warning. Stop! Stop! Or i will shoot.

4) Fire warning shot.

Lol.....by the time u shout Stop stop! The mob would have killed u!

Ha ha ha ha!

That is visual proof people can do 4 things at the same time.

1 Put and hold hands up overhead in surrender
2 Run faster than got to do in IPPT
3 Wet patches on pants that they were peeing into their pants
3 Wet patches behind pants that they were shitting into their pants at same time.
