Why Are The Patrol Police Being Blamed For Running???

Funny enough to see that many claims that the few police officers that arrives at the scene first fled.... Actually this is a very normal procedure be it in HK, Taiwan, even in UK or the US...

Take HK for instance, if the patrol police encounters a gang fight or find that they are being out-numbered, they will retreat n call back to the HQ for reinforcement n then the PTU will come follow by the Special Force if neccessary....

This procedure is being practiced even during their academy days... HK police are higher paid then the SG police but if they act on impulsiveness and dun wait for reinforcement, they will be reprimanded even if he or she succeeds in handling the situation...

So i dun really see why people are laughing at this few police officer when clearly they are being out-numbered.... Even if they are paid 10k a month does that mean they have to stay back n fight...

They didn't have a choice ...they could not fire any warning shots to calm the situation as the SPF top brass denied them permission to use their firearms. So, a controllable situation turned to a riot when the top brass did nothing to deter unruliness.

spf can commandeer mrt trains going into farrer park station in the future to transport riot divisions to riot scene. that should have been in contingency plans on day one of mrt operation. they never thought about it, but i'm giving them fresh ideas.

How were they supposed to fend against the swarming? They could have stop the situation from deteriorating if they were allowed to fire warning shots. Knowing the poodles were willing to use their weapons would send a stern warning to the crowd. But the SPF top brass did not allow that.
I don't blame the poodles ..they are humans after all.

If it is conducted in a professional manner as per SOP, moving away from an overwhelming force is called "withdrawal". if moving away out of fear and in total disarray, we call it "running away". Nobody think that the first responders should fight the mob. However, they should withdraw in a professional manner instead of leaving assets to block the fire engine and ambulance. I thought the scdf did pretty well in withdrawing from the scene.

Run for your life ...the goal is to survive, not look good about it. The poodles were betrayed by their commanders who denied the poodles permission to use firearms, even for warning shots.
I saw a video of SCDF firetruck in the panic getaway backing right into a police car!

It is like sending in your army into that area & when they encounter armed terrorists & they out number the troops, the troops abandon their jeeps with their equipments & other firearms & fled to safety, calling for reinforcements.

Mind you, these are just an unruly crowd, what if they were..........??? don't they have wooden truncheons? that can beat back these people?? ONE THING IS FOR SURE, THEY WERE UNPREPARED...& A WHOLE LOT OF PROPAGANDA HOGWASH...HOW PREPARED WE ARE...

We are so engrossed, so busy, so GREEDY making money & more money, that we have forgotten the basic thing of PROTECTING OURSELVES. Next time scdf can allow fire to burn down building without trying to fight it. Then after fire burn out by itself, can go claim that they were showing maximum restraint and that fire was being put out without using a drop of water.

on hindsight, it is easy to say that it was a "controllable" situation...

but it turned out to be a uncontrollable mob and rioting.....if the police had fired and killed anyone, at the " controllable" stage, the whole episode would be different. More deaths, more injuries and more fatalities...The whole of Little India would rain upon the security forces!! Emotions ran high!!! The mob turned blind and the rioters would kill with utter abandon.

So once again, the police did the right thing.Not a single shot was fired! And the whole riot burnt itself out. Well done SPF!

I agree . Time to withdraw, withdraw. Time to defend, defend. Time to attack, attack.

There is no shame if you humbly withdraw....no shame at all. You can always fight another day, when you are in a better position and when you are strategically placed.

These rioters are not our "enemies". They are our workers .They are here to build the country, to help build the economy and they are actually " part and parcel of our landscape". So we should treat them like our " own people". How could you shoot your own brothers?? Your own people??? It would be suicidal!!!

And don't forget our security forces KILLED all the terrorists on board the SIA!!!! ALL were killed - professionally!!!

It was a common sense decision - the right decision NOT to use any firearms under such a daunting situation. The reinforcement was slow because the whole place was congested, blocked and almost inaccessible. Strategically, the scene of the rioting was "locked and hemmed in".The biggest victory is a dignified,safe and gracious "withdrawal"...
