SINGAPORE: Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob will be making her introductory visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from May 6 to 8, announced the Office of the Clerk of Parliament in a press statement on Tuesday (May 5).
During the visit, Mdm Halimah will call on her counterpart, the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Heng Samrin, who will host her to an official dinner. In addition, Speaker Halimah will call on Prime Minister Hun Sen; and Acting Senate President Say Chhum.
Mdm Halimah will also meet the Singaporean community at a lunch reception to be hosted by the Singapore Embassy in Phnom Penh.
The Speaker of Parliament's visit marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Cambodia, said the Office of the Clerk of Parliament. It added that Singapore enjoys good diplomatic ties with Cambodia, which was one of the first countries to recognise our independence.
Through this visit, Speaker Halimah hopes to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries. She will be accompanied by Members of Parliament, Dr Lily Neo, Mr Patrick Ang and Mr Vikram Nair.
