Gan is a famous educator from Hokkien province and was invited to work in Philippines Chinese school. While he was in Philippines he participated and promoted anti Japanese activities.

Gan was in charged of promotion and was very good in giving impassioned speeches calling for overseas Chinese in Philippines to participate in anti Japan activities from calling for donation of cold wear to war funds to boycott of Japanese goods. Unfortunately after Japan invaded Philippines, this war hero was captured and executed by Japanese along with other heroes. He was tortured severely and yet refused to submit to Japanese demands and scolded the Japanese non stop.
