Yesterday was grazing in the land of milk and honey for the herd. 3 teams (England, Germany,USA) performed according to expectations. The victory by USA in particular was sweet as the money winning goal was scored in the 90th minute. The only downer was Australia upsetting former giant slayer Serbia. Still many had half expected an Australian upset so betting in that market was thin.
For today's matches, the following is the mid-day report
Paraguay-New Zealand Betting in this market is thin. Paraguay is the favoured team to win this match. Paraguay is however not particularly famous. Like Australia, New Zealand has a record of slaying giants. The herd thinking is therefore to stay out of this match.
Italy-Slovakia The return to form by the other European giants does not seem to have rubbed off on Italy. The herd continue to have serious doubts about whether Italy will perform tonight and make it through. Betting is light.
Denmark-Japan Betting is surprisingly heavy considering that these two teams are not in the heavy weight class. The herd is expecting Denmark to decisvely beat Japan. This is probably due to recent fine win by Denmark over former dark horse favourite Cameroon. Another possible reason is complicated "kelong" analysis which suggest that this match is "fixed".
Netherlands-Cameroon The fallen dark horse Cameroon is facing off against rising star Netherlands. Based on recent betting in the World Cup winner market, Netherlands is currently listed as the 4th most likely team to win World Cup 2010. There is therefore strong interest in betting for a Netherlands win. The only concern is that the canny Netherlands coach might choose to rest key players given the strong placing of Netherlands in the group.
