What kind of roadblocks do you think the security industry is facing in trying to improve the guards' wages? For the longest time, my heart goes to all these old uncles, wearing the uniform, staring at the blank space on his desk. They don't only look sad and jaded, they look unmotivated. =(

My heart goes to the lady security officer interviewed, she's a single parent. It's true they're very lowly paid. I do hope the progressive wage initiative will help the security officer out.
I wish Singaporeans will be more appreciative of the people that help us with our daily lives. Be it the cleaners who keep our areas clean, the security officers who ensure our safety and also even the MRT crowd control aunties in the morning that greet me with their smiles without fail.

I don't think they are very well-skilled and i am not sure if they really want to skill up given that some of them are just so old. They might be contented with their walkie talkies and CCTV screens. But its too labour intensive right now. There is a lot of room to improve the security industry.

It's a chicken and egg thing. Do you increase their salary first or wait for better chaps to join the industry?

Malaysians are the ones enjoying their work here. Lots of overtime. Getting S$2500-3000 is the norm. These chaps work 16 hrs a day. No off days. And they dont rent a room here.
