I am seeing this more and more, everywhere I go in public places. Big bags, small bags the lot. Worse still some of the chaps looks like body builders and their GFs small petite dolls. I meant it in the metaphorical sense really. To me from a male's pov observing the other sex for many years with fascination and wonder, I still think female's like the thrill & excitement of being with the "bad guy", the "bit of rough" who is sexy, mysterious, unpredictable and takes charge instead of boring old "mr nice guy". For William Hung, just google "i want to marry William Hung" -- you should still be able to find remnants of his fan girl movement at that time. Firstly, it depends on what kind of woman you are talking about. If you are talking about the average sinkie woman, to her, SATC is about branded bags, expensive shoes, dating rich men etc.
SATC doesn't apply to me even though I do love shoes. The women in the show are crazy!
For me, it was a showcase of warped relationship values, crazy idiotic men, even crazier women who definitely had the potential to make the show a long running one, given how warped their values were. If you mistake bad behaviour for alpha-male behaviour, the it's no wonder that you feel emotionally tortured.
I watched Sex and the City, the first season on DVD. I have to say that by the first season, I could see that Mr Big was going to give Carrie a difficult time, not just because he's uncommitted, but that she's a crazy woman whose only strengths lay in her great columns and her ability to be extremely neurotic. These two things are related btw, the fact that she writes a sex column for a living means that she has to constantly think of angles in the dating games -- thereby contributing to her neuroses. The fact that she constantly talks about the dating game with her girlfriends also contribute to their combined misery -- if you have trouble with a guy, talking about it INCESSANTLY is not going to help.
Do you know why Mr Big was called Mr Big? It is because he was an "up and coming", "going to be BIG" (i'm quoting the show here) real estate developer. This means that he's "BIG" because he's a rich guy.

In my view, he's a big ass (according to some synopses I read online about the story plot as it comes along in the future seasons). Most importantly, Carrie is a crazy woman, much like those single females in sinkieland who congregate in cliques on friday nights, hanging out at Bakerzin, Canele, and other restaurants.
It used to be that friday nights were date nights for working couples. Nowadays on weekends, the women chit chat in Orchard with their branded bags and shoes, while the men go to Geylang or lan-game, or watch soccer.
So in that sense, SATC is pretty accurate if you apply it to trashy, materialistic Office Ladies in sinkieland. The kind that make sinkie men marry china or viet women, or not get married at all.

And that drinking alot is ok for a woman, or smoking like a chimney is fine too. That was the reason I watched the show because I was totally clueless about its social impact and I just had to see it for myself what the big deal about the show is.
If girl expects a branded bag, which costs say $1000, then why shouldn't a guy go to a FL and get 5-10 shags instead of a girlfriend? At least he knows what he'll be getting. But this is just the sex part.
