I think there's an over-reliance on automation on the newer MRT lines, where the trains are driverless.

Anyhow, the warning signs were already present long before this spate of incidents. I had been travelling along the East-West line and sometimes I could hear horrible screeching/creaking/bumping sounds from under the train along the tracks... it sounded as though there was a lack of lubrication or maintenance.

Well, in crony-corporate fascist states such as Singapore, corporations are way higher in the food chain than (ordinary) individuals, so your convenience, prosperity and safety can all go kiss Saw Phaik Hwa's ass.

KL never claim their lines are first world, that is for sure, their breakdowns are breakdowns expected from a system they have, what we call normal, plus a spectacular one some years back, the wheel of the monorail dropped off, which stumped the French, till this day.

At least, they are honest about what they have. We pay so much for a minister & a transport system, and we expect a better contigency planning than this. what is the bloody use of announcing if your see any suspicious articles or... to our staff, when their staff is not able to cope with a major breakdown like this??

Are we asking too much from a too well paid people running the country & system.:p

But then they had never boasted that theirs are world class transport systems and had never used that as an excuse to keep raising fares. Their fares are very reasonable and that's why when there are breakdowns, you don't get people so agitated, inconvenienced yes, but not hopping mad. It's like going for dinner. If you walk into a food outlet that promises you fine-dining cuisine and charge you sky-high prices, and when the food finally comes is so bad and service lousy, of course you will complain, because you had so much. On the other hand the food outlet charges you reasonably, you will accept just foodcourt standard and service, no complaints. Worse still in S'pore case, the food outlet raise its prices again and promise you it will serve better food and provide better service, but things are still the same.

You got the gist of things, I have taken the KL LRT/Monorail/KTM commuter system, even the one from KLI to KL Sentral, their bus services, taxis etc...you don't expect much, it is you pay for what you get, system failures etc included, but it does run smoothly on most days. But here, we pay so much, our expectation are higher & higher still when they boast so much & insist so much that, they have to be paid that much. That is, way too much!:p
