Top Civil Servant Pay. Are we paying them too much?

I think we all know ministers are way way overpaid. Just want to find out if one or two layer down, the situation is the same, they are way overpaid compared to their counterpark in other countries (I am comparing against US, UK..etc and not China or Indonesia). I know the Papies arguement that these posts are for scholars and they can walk into any companies top management if they so wishes (this is what the Papies said but reality may be different, they may only walk into GIC). Also I know we need to pay them high otherwise they get corrupted!! However the real question is are they overpaid in relations to their counterpart in other countries (eg US, UK..etc).

Dir of CNB vs Equivalent position in US (Should compare against same city size...maybe equivalent position in Chicago but I am sure the US position is more challenging).
Chief Justice or High Court Judge (again must compare size for size...should use Chicago as eg).


My sensing is that not only Ministers are overpaid but all the Perm Secs and head of departments are the same too. Do we need to pay so much? Especially when the job they do are worth less in other countries.

actually a lot people dunno. if u got a degree and like to relax. join civil servant the best. high pay, good benefit and a lot of leave. div 1 and above all enjoying life, do nothing and no one monitor your job. beside dec bonus, performance bonus at least 3 mth. those work like a dog are those div 2 and below. gov hierarchy is no long the triangle with the below broad. now is upside down. div 2 and below become lesser with div 1 and above more, so those really need to work is less than the management!!! last time is 1 supervisory role to 10 subordinates, but now is 10 supervisory role to 1 subordinate!!! the 10 supervisory role still need supports to manage the 1 subordinate and still thinking of ways to cut benefits. its reverse now, everyone is your boss. imagine one corporal under 10 major, i think the corporal is screw! talk about multi tasking.

I still cannot cannot understand why we pay these jokers so much?? They are supposed to be like CEOs, but their organisation are sheltered from competition (or worse monopoly), they are not driven by bottomline and the products they sell are 'shafted' to us whether we like it or not. How I wish I could be in their shoes..get 5 or 6 figure pay every month, sleep like a baby every nite and once in a while can get dick shoe-shined by sultry female vendors!!

If the garment ever wants to know the reason for the income gap, the disparity between rich and poor ...etc. All it needs to do is look at the civil servants pay....how is it the top gets more than 10 times the salary of the normal executive or more than 50 times the starting salaries of graduates or 100 times that of a office cleaner. I mean come on...are they worth so much??

The highest paid politicians should be paid the lowest pay of an ordinary office workers or the sanitation engineers aka rubbish collectors.
They do nothing; resourceless Singapore is unique because it runs on auto-pilot. The country will automatically work itself from third world to the first - no need to use the best brains of the country. It's better to believe all the negative things Sammyboy forummers here utter about their government than to believe the government itself or the civil service.

I've no qualms with the wealth disparity. What irks me is the rampant corruption and breaches of trust in Sinkieland. Addressing every problem with platitudes about self-reliance is a blatant dereliction of duty, no matter how they try to weasel out of it. I don't blame the lower levels. Their pay is not high and they are just running the system. The issue is the higher levels, those that earn more than $20k/mth and of course the worst culprits are those that earn $100k/mth. All big wayang stars!

If Sinkieland was so destitute in the early years, why the fuck did luminaries such as Albert Einstein and Sun Yat-Sen visit Sinkieland to raise funds? Would you travel to Somalia today to source for venture capital? Even Kuan Yew himself acknowledged in 1967 that Singapore was already a metropolis then.
