According to Jesus’ admissions, as well as the Bible’s prophecies, Jesus of Nazareth could not have been the Messiah. This of course, would invalidate Christianity as we know it. The compilation presented here shall be split in three sections. The first shall be the biblical prophecies that were made in order to identify the messiah, which Jesus does not fulfill. The second shall be the prophecies that Christians use to say that Jesus was the Messiah, yet they clearly fail. The third set shall be the prophecies and statements Jesus made yet they are false and have never came true.

Prophecies to Identify the Messiah, Which Jesus Does Not Fulfill:

1) Matthew 1:23 says that Jesus (the messiah) would be called Immanuel, which means "God with us." Yet no one, not even his parents, call him Immanuel at any point in the bible.

2) The Messiah must be a physical descendant of David (Romans 1:3 & Acts 2:30). Yet, how could Jesus meet this requirement since his genealogies in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 show he descended from David through Joseph, who was not his natural father because of the Virgin Birth. Hence, this prophecy could not have been fulfilled.

3) Isaiah 7:16 seems to say that before Jesus had reached the age of maturity, both of the Jewish countries would be destroyed. Yet there is no mention of this prophecy being fulfilled in the New Testament with the coming of Jesus, hence this is another Messiah prophecy not fulfilled.

Prophecies Christians Use to Verify Jesus as the Messiah, Yet Clearly Fail:

4) The gospels (especially Matthew 21:4 and John 12:14-15) claim that Jesus fulfills the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. But the next few verses (Zechariah 9:10-13) show that the person referred to in this verse is a military king that would rule "from sea to sea". Since Jesus had neither an army nor a kingdom, he could not have fulfilled this prophecy.

5) Matthew (Matthew 2:17-18) quotes Jeremiah (Jeremiah 31:15), claiming that it was a prophecy of King Herod’s alleged slaughter of the children in and around Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus. But this passage refers to the Babylonian captivity, as is clear by reading the next two verses (Jeremiah 31:16-17), and, thus, has nothing to do with Herod’s massacre.

6) John 19:33 says that during Jesus’ crucifixion, the soldiers didn’t break his legs because he was already dead. Verse John 19:36 claims that this fulfilled a prophecy: "Not a bone of him shall be broken." But there is no such prophecy. It is sometimes said that the prophecy appears in Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12 & Psalm 34:20. This is not correct. Exodus 12:46 & Numbers 9:12 are not prophecies, they are commandments. The Israelites are told not to break the bones of the Passover lamb, and this is all it is about. And Psalm 34:20 seems to refer to righteous people in general (see verse Psalm 34:19, where a plural is used), not to make a prophecy about a specific person.

7) "When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt." Hosea 11:1. Matthew (Matthew 2:15) claims that the flight of Jesus’ family to Egypt is a fulfillment of this verse. But Hosea 11:1 is not a prophecy at all. It is a reference to the Hebrew exodus from Egypt and has nothing to do with Jesus. Matthew tries to hide this fact by quoting only the last part of the verse ("Out of Egypt I have called my son").

8) "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2 The gospel of Matthew (Matthew 2:5-6) claims that Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem fulfils this prophecy. But this is unlikely for two reasons.

A) "Bethlehem Ephratah" in Micah 5:2 refers not to a town, but to a clan: the clan of Bethlehem, who was the son of Caleb’s second wife, Ephrathah (1 Chronicles 2:18, 2:50-52 & 4:4).

B) The prophecy (if that is what it is) does not refer to the Messiah, but rather to a military leader, as can be seen from Micah 5:6. This leader is supposed to defeat the Assyrians, which, of course, Jesus never did. It should also be noted that Matthew altered the text of Micah 5:2 by saying: "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah" rather than "Bethlehem Ephratah" as is said in Micah 5:2. He did this, intentionally no doubt, to make this verse appear to refer to the town of Bethlehem rather than the family clan.

Statements Jesus Made Which Are False:

9) Jesus in John 14:12 & Mark 16:17-18 said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth in me, the works that I do shall he also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." This implies that Jesus’ true followers should be able to routinely perform the following tricks: 1) cast out devils, 2) speak in tongues, 3) take up serpents, 4) drink poisons without harm, and 5) cure the sick by touching them and MANY other of Jesus’ "works". Curiously I have yet to see a Christian that can do any of the above on demand.

10) In John 14:13-14 Jesus stated: "And whatsoever ye ask in my name I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If ye ask any thing in my name, I will do it." In reality, millions of people have made millions of requests in Jesus’ name and failed to receive satisfaction. This promise or prophecy has failed completely.

11) Paul says Christianity lives or dies on the Resurrection (1 Corinthian 15:14-17). Yet Jesus said in Matthew 12:40 that he would be buried three days and three nights as Jonah was in the whale three days and three nights. Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning is only one and a half days, so he could not have been the messiah by his own and Paul’s admission.

12) Jesus’ prophecy in John 13:38 ("The cock shall not crow, till thou [Peter] hast denied me three times") is false. Mark 14:66-68 shows the cock crowed after the first denial, not the third.

13) In Mark 10:19 Jesus said: "Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother." Jesus needs to re-read the Ten Commandments. There is no Old Testament commandment against defrauding. The only relevant statement about defrauding is in Leviticus 19:13 , which says : "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor." This is an OT law, but is not listed with the Ten Commandments. Surely, if Jesus was god incarnate he would know the commandments.

14) "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven" (John 3:13). If Jesus is in heaven, how can he be down on earth speaking? Moreover, according to 2 Kings 2:11 ("and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven") Jesus was not the only person to ascend into heaven, nor was he the first. Elijah preceded him and apparently Enoch did also ("And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him"--Genesis 5:24).

15) In Luke 23:43 Jesus said to the thief on the cross, "Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." This obviously has to be false, for Jesus was supposed to lay dead in the tomb for three days following his crucifixion.

1 6) Jesus says : "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy" (Matthew 5:43). This statement does not exist in the OT either. In fact, Proverbs 24:17 says, "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth…"

17) Jesus is reported to say: "The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it" (Luke 16:16). Certainly every man is not pressing to enter the kingdom of God. The very fact that I am an atheist (one third of the world’s population does not believe in a god) proves this verse to be false.

18) "Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?" (Matthew 12:5) Nowhere does the OT state that the priests in the temple profaned the Sabbath and were considered blameless.

19) "Yea; have ye never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise'" (Matthew 21:16). Jesus is quoting Psalm 8:2, which says, "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies…". "Perfect praise" has little to do with "ordaining strength because of thine enemies." Another misquotation!

20) "But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him" (Mark 9:13). There are no prophecies in the OT of things that were to happen to Elijah.

Jesus, in all his "God incarnate" wisdom, contradicts himself:

21) Jesus consistently contradicts himself concerning his Godly status. "I and my father are one." (John 14:28) Also see Philippians 2:5-6 Those verses lead us to believe that he is a part of the trinity and equal to his father being a manifestation of him. Yet, Jesus also made many statements that deny he is the perfect men, much less God incarnate. Take the following for example: "Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God" (Matthew 19:17). "My father if greater then I." (John 14:28) Also see Matthew 24:26 Clearly, Jesus is denouncing the possibility of him being the Messiah in those three verses.

22) Jesus said, "whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire" (Matthew 5:22). Yet, he himself did so repeatedly, as Matthew 23:17-19 and Luke 11:40 & 12:20 show. Clearly Jesus should be in danger of hell too?

23) Does Jesus support peace, or war? Matthew 5:39 "Resist not evil, but whoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." Also note Matthew 6:38-42 & 26:52 where Jesus teaches non-resistance, Non-violence. Now read (Luke 22:36-37) Where Jesus commands people to take arms for a coming conflict. (John 2:15) Jesus uses a whip to physically drive people out of the temple.

24) Matthew 15:24 Jesus said, "I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of lsrael,". This would of course mean that he is here only to save the Jews. The scriptures repeatedly back up this notion that Christ is savior to the Jews and not the gentiles (see Romans 16:17, Revelations 14:3-4 & John 10). The contradiction lies in what Jesus later tells his followers: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations" (Matthew 28:19).

25) Can we hate our kindred? Luke 14:26 Jesus says "If any man come unto me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brother, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple." John 3:15 "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer." Also see Ephesians 6:22, 5:25, & Matthew 15:4

26) Even many of the staunchest defenders of Jesus admit that his comment in Matthew 10:34 ("I came not to send peace but a sword") contradicts verses such as Matthew 26:52 ("Put up again thy sword into his place: for all that take the sword shall perish with the sword").

27) Deuteronomy 24:1 & 21:10-14 all say that divorce is allowed for the simple reason if a "man no longer delighteth in his wife". Yet Jesus comes along and breaks his father’s law by saying in Matthew 5:32 that adultery is the only way one can be divorced.

28) In Mark 8:35 Jesus said: "...but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s the same shall save it." How could Jesus have said this when there was no gospel when he lived? The gospel did not appear until after his death.

29) Matthew 6:13 Jesus recites a revised prayer and states, "Don’t bring us into temptation." God is the cause of everything, even Satan. God has been leading people into temptation since the Garden of Eden. Otherwise, the trees of life and knowledge would have never been there.

30) Matthew 12:1-8 Jesus thinks it’s okay to break his father’s laws, by breaking the Sabbath day. He states that he is basically exempt for such fiascoes and that he is Master of the Sabbath.

31) John 3:17 Jesus contradicts himself when he says, "God didn’t send his son into the world to condemn it, but to save it." Jesus seems to forget his own stories.

32) James 4:3 If your prayers are not answered, it’s your own damned fault. This is in direct contradiction to where Jesus says "seek and ye shall find, ask and it shall be known to you".

33) "If Jesus bears witness of himself his witness is true" John 8:14, "If I bear witness of myself it is not true." John 5:31

34) "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20), versus "For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always" (Matthew 26:11 , Mark 14:7, John 12:8) and "Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am thither ye cannot come" (John 7:34). Is this the kind of friend one can rely on?

35) "And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her" (Mark 10:11 & Luke 6:18), versus "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery" (Matthew 19:9). In the book of Matthew, Jesus said a man could put away his wife if one factor-- fornication--is involved. In Mark and Luke he allowed no exceptions.

36) Jesus is quoted: "Judge not, and ye shall be not judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven" (Luke 6:37 & Matthew 7:1), versus "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment" (John 7:24). Jesus stated men are not to judge but, then, allowed it under certain conditions. As in the case of divorce, he can’t seem to formulate a consistent policy.

37) "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Matthew 27:46, (also note the time before crucification where Jesus prays for the "cup to passeth over me") versus "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, for this purpose I have come to this hour" (John 12:27 RSV). Jesus can’t seem to decide whether or not he wants to die. One moment he is willing; the next he isn’t.

38) In Luke 23:30 ("Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, fall on us, and to the hills, cover us") Jesus quoted Hosea 10:8 ("...and they shall say to the mountains, cover us; and to the hills, fall on us"). And, like Paul, he often quoted inaccurately. In this instance, he confused mountains with hills.

39) "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they know him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist" (Matthew 17:11-13). John the Baptist was beheaded, but Jesus was not. And what did John the Baptist restore? Nothing!

40) We are told salvation is obtained by faith alone (John 3:18 & 36) yet Jesus told a man to follow the Commandments-Matthew 19:16-18 (saving by works)-if he wanted eternal life.

41) In Luke 12:4 Jesus told his followers to "Be not afraid of them that kill the body." But Matthew 12:14-16, John 7:1, 8:59, 10:39, 11:53-54, & Mark 1:45 show that Jesus consistently feared death. Jesus went out of his way to hide, run, and attempt escape from the Roman and Jewish authorities.

42) Matthew 5:28 says to sin in "your heart" is considered a sin in itself. The messiah is supposed to be God incarnate, not able to sin, yet in Matthew 4:5 & Luke 4:5-9, Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, which is sinning in his heart. Jesus also took upon all the sins of the world during his crucifixion, so how can it be said that "Jesus was the perfect man without sin"? This would lead one to believe he was not the Messiah.

43) Jesus told us to "Love your enemies; bless them that curse you," but ignored his own advice by repeatedly denouncing his opposition. Matthew 23:17 ("Ye fools and blind"), Matthew 12:34 ("0 generation of vipers"), and Matthew 23:27 (". . . hypocrites . . . ye are like unto whited sepulchres. . .") are excellent examples of hypocrisy.

44) Did the people of Jesus’ generation see any signs? (Matthew 12:38-40) Jesus announced that no signs would be given to that generation except the Resurrection itself. (Mark 8:12-13) Jesus announced that no signs would be given to that generation. (Mark 16:20) They went out preaching, and the Lord confirmed the word through accompanying signs. (John 20:30) Jesus provided many wonders and signs. (Acts 2:22) Jesus provided many wonders and signs. (Acts 5:12 & 8:13) many signs and wonders were done through the apostles.

45) Jesus commands the disciples to go into Galilee immediately after the resurrection. Matthew 28:10 Jesus commands the disciples to "tarry in Jerusalem" immediately after the resurrection.

46) Matthew 28:18 & John 3:35 both tell that Jesus said he could do anything. Yet Mark 6:5 says Jesus was not all powerful.

47) Jesus says in Luke 2:13-14 that he came to bring peace on earth. Matthew 10:34 Jesus back peddles and says he did not come to bring peace on earth.

48) Did Christ receive testimony from man? "Ye sent unto John and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man." John 5:33-34 "And ye shall also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning." John 15:27

49) Christ laid down his life for his friends. John 15:13 & 10:11 Christ laid down his life for his enemies. Romans 5:10

50) Deuteronomy 23:2 says that bastards can not attend church unto the tenth generation. If Jesus was spawned by Mary and Jehovah as the Bible claims then he is technically a bastard and should not be the leader of the church.

Jesus Lied About Prayer

Jesus is quoted many times in the Bible saying that a believer can ask for anything through prayer and receive it. He even goes so far as to say that mountains and trees can be thrown into the sea simply by praying for it. This is clearly a lie, and can be proven to be a lie by any believer. Simply pray for me to be converted to Christianity right away. Or better yet ask God to move the mountains behind my house. He could make a lot of converts that way. If I’m converted today, I’ll post a public apology on my web site and devote my life to kissing God’s ass. If I’m not converted it would only be fair for you to apologize and devote your life to kissing my butt.

Here are the quotes from Jesus that proves that he lied:

1) And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (Matthew 21:21-22 NAS)

2) Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8 NAB)

3) Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20 NAS)

4) Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25 NAB)

5) And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-13 NAB)

6) And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14 NAB)

7) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 NAB)

8) It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. (John 15:16 NAB)

9) On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. (John 16:23-24 NAB)

A lot of Christians ignore what Jesus actually says in the Bible. They also tend to add things to the actual words to make them say something else. If you honestly and truthfully read these quotes, without adding to them, it is very easy to see that Jesus is not saying that God will think about your prayers. He says God will grant all your prayers. Clearly, God doesn’t grant all prayers and this proves that Jesus was a habitual liar.

If the Bible was divinely inspired, then why would it have so many really obvious contradictions?

Greeting in the Mighty Name of our Lord Jesus,

I have just come across this video clip and I would like to share with you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu0NVSXM9cY&feature=player_embedded

I don't know about you, but I am truly humbled by this young boy's message. I have learned several lessons from him:

(a) He must be studying the Bible day and night from Genesis to Revelation. This is one thing many of us as Christians are lacking. We need to study the Bible to fully understand God's message and His dealing with corrupt mankind.

(b) The parents must be godly man and woman of God to raise up this godly boy. We too must pray very hard that we can raise our kids in godly way and we certainly need the power of the Holy Spirit to help us to accomplish this - and He will if we are sincere!

(c) Every word that came out from this young boy puts many of us to shame. As we can see even from the Sammyboy forum, the use of four-letter word is so rampant - and sadly by adults - and this young boy truly put these adults to shame. To add insult to themselves, some even attached photographs or images that even their own children (and I am assuming they have children) don't want to see or dare not see!

Pray that this video clip will strengthen your faith and will give you a source of encouragement that as with God, nothing is impossible. If this young boy is not ashame of the Gospel, we too must not be ashame. If this young boy can tell the story of Jesus to the world, we too must be also able to tell His story to the world.

God bless and have a great weekend.

Today’s Scripture Reading [January 23, 2011]

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. [Genesis 2:23. KJV]

Over the last few weeks, the discussions on our national demography have dominated most of the local news. More specifically, the discussions focused on the falling birth rates, people are getting married at older age, and increasing number of people are choosing singlehood as their preferred lifestyle. There are reasons why such problems are taking place and admittedly many of the reasons are valid and with logical basis. They range from the rising cost of living, especially in housing, healthcare, education to people who are just wanting to be remained ‘status quo’ and find it difficult to change their lifestyle. We all must agree that once you have started a family, your lifestyle can never be the same. Often than not, family problems take the centre stage of our daily life. It is important that as Christians, how we handle our family problems, especially for those married people will determine the quality of our Christian faith and also our position with God.

In the book of Genesis, we noted that God personally solemnized the marriage of Adam and Eve. This holy matrimony took place in the most perfect environment that the world has ever known, the Garden of Eden. It was the perfect matrimonial union as both the bridegroom and bride were the created beings by God himself. They were like ‘God’ in the sense that they were sinless. They were, sadly, the first and the last perfect human couple without inherited sin. Tragically, as we continue reading the book of Genesis, we discovered that after God solemnized the marriage of Adam and Eve, Satan gave them no chance to build their relationship. He immediately came to them and started the first work of deception that has caused the downfall of not just the human race but the whole of God’s creation. Satan was more cunning than any beast which God has made and started to tell Eve exactly the opposite of what God had earlier instructed her: “That if she eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, she will surely not die (Genesis 3:3)”. The destruction that followed after Eve had given the fruit to Adam who also ate it was beyond the imagination for both of them. It was not their ‘honest’ mistake but their conscious attempt to disobey God’s command when they ate of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because God had told them not to eat. God has warned them that “For in the day they eat it, they will surely die” (Genesis 2:17). They indeed died, spiritually, upon eating the fruit, and physically too. God has intended to create them to live forever in the Garden of Eden.

This story in Genesis has taught us extremely important lessons on relationship, especially in a marriage. First, the best way for Satan to destroy God’s people is to destroy the relationship of married couple. Many people are facing problems of marital relationship due to infidelity, physical abuse, alcoholic and drug abuse, gambling addiction, and so on. Especially if you are doing the work of church ministry, it is just simply impossible to be effective when you have relationship problems in your family. It could be between you and your spouse, or between you and your children, or even among your children. How could you preach to someone, or counsel someone about God’s love when you have a dysfunctional family? Satan knew it too well about all these. He took no chance to spare this otherwise perfect union and had succeeded with ‘flying colours’ in destroying this matrimony even though it was personally instituted by God. When our family is destroyed, our testimonies, our Christian walk will go as well. But I not referring to destruction due to death but rather destruction of family due to divorce, quarrels, children’s disobedience that God hates. Furthermore, such events will bring dishonor to God.

Second, we must therefore always be on the lookout for any deception that can creep into our families. Satan is like a roaring lion looking to devour us (1 Peter 5:8). He will never want to let go any opportunity that he could find in order to destroy God’s ministry, and the best way for him to do this is to destroy our family or our marriage, just like what he did to Adam and Eve. Not only they had been chased out of the Garden of Eden after they had sinned against God, and their right to live with God forever was confiscated. Additionally, all the provisions that God wanted to freely give to them for their sole enjoyment were withdrawn. They had to toil their hands to produce all the food for themselves (Genesis 3:18). In the modern days, this is usually the issue at hand for families – the financial well-being and economic survival. Many divorces and marital relationship breakdown are due to problems of finances. We must honestly and humbly agree that in today’s economy, “no dough means no marriage” to many people and to others who are already married, it could simple mean “struggling marriage”. This is a global phenomenon especially when a country becomes more prosperous and wealthy, ironically! But this is not just the financial aspect that we all worried about as far as marriage and family are concerned. The statement that ‘marriage is under attack on several fronts, from our culture of serial monogamy and easy divorce to the new push for so-called gay marriage’ is no more for debate whether it’s true or not. In the last few decades we have been very fortunate to be led to the belief (wittingly or unwittingly) that our government doesn’t just take care of people’s welfare. Senior government officials were (and hopefully they still are) the pure breed with impeccable character. They had led us by their example and they could not tolerate any mischief caused by their peers no matter how insignificant or however ‘private’ a mischief it can be. If any senior government official caught having a mistress or a lover he would run into the risk of losing his position because absolute faithfulness to his wife is a key character quality that was (and hopefully is) necessary and anyone who discover to have a mistress or a lover was deemed not worthy to continue in the high position. He would be 'excommunicated' from the government machinery! Whether this is true or not, we really don't know but at least most of us tend to believe that this is what it is (or was?) It is amazing or in fact quite puzzling (at least to me) that even some of our senior ‘respected’ politicians are now quite indifferent towards homosexual and openly declared that personal character is no more an issue for people of high positions so long they can perform and take care of people’s welfare. The shocking comment of “His private life is His private matter” (and who cares) is something we can least expect. Is the Bible prophecy that we are heading towards the events that will lead us to the end-time is unfolding right before us right now? When Jesus was asked when will the Kingdom of God come, He has warned us that when we are experiencing events such as those took place in Lot’s day, the Kingdom of God will be approaching (Luke 17:24 – 29). We read that during Lot’s day, among other sins, homosexual was rampant and God has to send fire and brimstones from heaven to destroy the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The third lesson we can learn from the story of Adam and Eve is that, don't take our situation for granted. We may all feel that we are in the most perfect environment - a high-paying job, a huge house, a big car, a good health, a loving spouse, and nothing can happen to our family. We need God's help and never live our lives as if Satan is blind and dead; he is very much alive, and he is watching us and ready to devour us like lion. He will not spare God's people and he will take every effort to bring down a family that is built by God's children. We therefore must not let him have the chance to do so. If Satan can pentrate into the absolute perfect environment to create havoc in the lives of Adam and Eve, we must be prepared and not let him take us by surprise. We must not create opportunity for him to penetrate into our lives, into our family.

What do all these mean to people who are married and have children, and how should we respond to this latest front in the war on marriage, on family? As we read in Psalm 118:8: "It is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in man", we must prayerfully go to the word of God to get insight, guidance and wisdom. Only His word can be trusted. In particular, the book of Ephesians is a great book on marriage and on family. For example, in Ephesians 5:22-23, Apostle Paul draws a word picture showing the parallel between a married couple and Christ and His church, setting out the proper order for success, not only for physical marriage, but for our spiritual one too. Both the physical and the spiritual are rooted in the love God has for the marriage covenant. Just as a man and a woman are joined as one flesh, so too are Christ and His church joined in one Spirit. For a marriage to be successful, we must therefore make God the center of our life. All serious marriage couples should read the book of Ephesians as often as they could and preferably be read together because this book gives spiritual nourishments essential for a healthy marriage intended by our loving Lord Jesus.

Today’s Scripture Reading [January 30, 2011]

And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God. [Zechariah 13:8-9. KJV]

Are you facing some challenging situations now? Whatever trial you’re going through right now, does it feel as though you are walking through a fire? Are you feeling tortured? Whatever it is that engulfs with flames of despair – job, career, illness, finances, relationships – you are not alone. Why does the Lord allow these times in our lives? In today’s scripture text, I have used Zechariah 13:8-9 and it says we are refined with each trial we experience – but the Lord is right there with us when we call on Him.

In the Book of Malachi we can also read of a verse that mirrored closely to Zechariah 13:8-9. In Malachi 3:3 we read: “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.” It is interesting to note the correlation or connection of purifying silver and righteous-offering to God in these verses. What these two have in common and why God is telling us that in order to reach the level of godly righteousness we must go through a silver-purification process? I am quite sure, like many Christians, you are puzzled by the connection between refining silver under furnace of fire and righteous-offering to God.

Encountering this puzzle, a Christian woman decided to find out more about the actual process of silver purification and see how this could be connected to the verse in Malachi 3:3. This was what she found out. She made an appointment with a silversmith to watch him at work. She didn’t mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the refining process, he noted that the silversmith held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. The silversmith explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. At this moment, the woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: “He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.” She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The silversmith answered that yes. In fact, not only he had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?” He smiled at her and answered, “Oh, that’s easy - when I see my image in it.”

What a mighty God we have! These verses clearly speak to us that we are closely watched by and cared for by our Creator. He will never leave us even for a short moment no matter what situation we are in. We may lament like just how longer must we go through this fire? When does the refining end? Does it ever end? Why must we go through this refining process of our trials? We can go on asking question after question but we can take absolute comfort of our Saviour’s promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us as we move forward to keep His commandments, to serve Him and to do His will of sharing His gospel.

Frankly, we all thought of these questions when we are facing difficult time or when one of our beloved friends or relatives who is going through cancer treatment or facing great life challenges. Many of us cannot understand the reason or the purpose of the trial let alone accept it. What we want is just to get out of the situation as quick as possible. We seek counseling; we seek prayer; we fast; and just about doing anything just to get out of the situation. We need, however, to remind ourselves that the same God who used Moses to lead His people out of Egypt is the very same God that will also lead us out of our difficult situation, whatever the situation may be. He will never us leave alone to figure out 'what's next'. His mighty love is ever present in us and it is His job that we are not destroyed by the 'baptism of fire' due to the trial and tribulation that He has permitted. The Lord was right there with Moses and the Israelites, and He too is right here with us. We may be feeling the heat of the fire but the power of the Holy Spirit will eventually cool down the fire and bring our trials to pass. It takes time and the time for God to cool down the fire is when we have become His image, known of His purpose of letting us why we are facing the trial and tribulation. As the word of God has told us that: “All things work together for good to them that loved God, to them who are called to His purpose (Romans 8:28)” so as we go through our day-to-day trial, as we carry the cross that has been designed just for us, is our Lord able to see His reflection on us? Can He see Himself in our actions? Because of our trial, have our responses and reactions to these trials made us more like Him?

Besides the Book of Zachariah and Malachi, there are also many verses connecting the trial of God’s people and the silver-refining process. For example we can read in Psalm 66:10: “For thou, O God, has proved (i.e. tested) us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.” Like those verses in Malachi and Zechariah (as well as in several verses of Psalms and Proverbs), we are assuredly and blessedly told that Jesus, our Mighty Saviour, takes up the role of the silversmith. Because of the fall of man we are tainted by sin and so we have a sinful nature, which are the impurities – of greed, covetousness, envy, jealousy, immorality, idolatry, pride, hatred, disobedience. Because of these impurities, we need to be put into the fire of trials and tribulation so that they can be burned away and in the process it teaches us patience and perseverance, as said in James 1:3-4: “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” Just like a silversmith who refines silver ore to extract the precious pure silver, our Saviour is doing the same. He was to refine us because we are precious to Him. And we can take comfort that He knows our limit because if we are left too long in the fire, just like silver, we can be destroyed. We can claim the promise from Him because God is faithful, and He will not let us be tempted or tried beyond our ability, but with the temptation and trial He will also provide the way of escape, that we may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). We are exposed to trials with His full knowledge and they are meant to strengthen our faith which in turn gives us the needed endurance to face even bigger life challenges which everybody needs to face. If today you are feeling the heat of the fire (and I believe many of us are), remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Today’s Scripture Reading [February 6, 2011]

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. [1 Peter 2:9-10. KJV]

Have you ever known any peculiar people? We heard sometime our friends telling us that they have peculiar friends. What they usually meant is that these peculiar friends seem to display habits or behaviours that are out of sync with normal (or non-peculiar) people. To most of the people, the word ‘peculiar’ means strange, queer, unusual, weird, or odd and this word is often used in reference to a person’s behaviour which may or may not necessarily be all bad one. For example, other many people would consider you ‘peculiar’ because instead of drinking a cup of coffee or tea for your breakfast, you drink a can of beer. Drinking a can of beer may not be harmful but it’s simply not usual that anyone would drink it as breakfast beverage; certainly not when you first woke up from your bed.

[Note: In 1 Peter 2:9, the word “peculiar” is used to identifying Christians as a “peculiar people”. Some Bible scholars have pointed out that the word “peculiar” comes from the Latin word, “pecus” which means “flock”. The word ‘peculiar’ that used in 1 Peter 2:9 is simply reflecting the idea that believers in Christ are the unique possession of God - they are His flock. As we all know, the New Testament is written mostly in Greek, and actually the word in 1 Peter 2:9 is the Greek word ‘peripoiesis’, which has the idea of possession, or personal property. It is the preposition ‘peri’, which means “around” - connected to the noun ‘poiesis’, which refers to something that is made, or done. Some Greek scholars have pointed out that “the Greek word means literally ‘to make around,’ that is, to make something and then to surround it with a circle, thus indicating ownership.” ]

The above note which analyzing the Latin and Greek word ‘peculiar’ is extremely encouraging for us as Christians because we are indeed a special group of people who are the unique possession by God. We are His treasure. We are precious to Him. We are member of His eternal family. It follows from here that we are the special object of God’s love and care, and nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:39). We are unique, or we can even claim that we are ‘uniquely unique!’ This uniqueness of us is the result that we are the redemption of the purchased possession and to the promise of His glory is also confirmed to us in His word in Ephesians 1:14.

Like Jeremiah who was chosen by God before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5), we too are chosen to be His people before we were born; in fact before the foundation of the earth, the names of true Christians were already written in the Book of Life, and it is further noted that the Book of Life appears seven times in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12; 20:15; 21:27; 22:19). As Christians whose names are written in the Book of Life, as His chosen people, we must take strong faith that God has chosen us for a unique reason, the reason that this choice of divine election that we are His children and He is our God gives rise to at least five essentials of election that we are so blessedly endowed with.

(1) The divine election that God chooses us to be His children crushes our pride

Many people, including some Christians, believe that God the Father honors everyone as long as people try to live a good and godly life. However, as we can read from Scripture verses, this is not the way God the Father has everything set up to be. God will only honour, and He makes it very clear that it is only through His Son and His sacrificial death on the cross that will give people eternal life and thus eternal life with Him in heaven (Galatians 2:16). Our good work will never bring us close to Gate of Heaven let alone as the source for our entry into His Kingdom! As spoken by Isaiah, all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:9).

(2) The divine election that God chooses us to be His children exalts God

Many of us view the word ‘god’ or ‘gods’ to be some objects like a wood-craving or a religious symbol that we knelt down and worship. It is true that most of these idol-objects of worship are in the forms of man-made objects of wood carving and symbols. However, we must also realize that our ‘gods’ can be also our material possessions – our house, our car and non-material possessions like our job, our hobby, our sports. In today’s digital world, sadly many of our ‘gods’ are the computers, the mobile phones, the iPods, the video games, those uncontrolled internet surfing of meaningless information. Addiction to these ‘gods’ is becoming a major mental illness. “It doesn’t need to take a rocket scientist to tell you that addiction in whatever form is bad – whether it is the internet, the computer game, or drug.” Such was a comment made by one of the readers who responded to a recent report on the serious negative effect of computer and virtual game addiction. Let us put aside as much as possible – if possible completely – the ‘digital gods’ that many people are so addicted too. Many years ago, if one would go to a video game arcade, one could see young boys and girls played at the arcade sometimes in their school uniform. The problem then was rampant and the Government has illegalized them and barred school children with uniform from going to these arcades. The war of video game has finally been won, so we thought. We are now for a big rude surprise! The video game arcade with 3D capability is right here, not just in the game arcade; it can be right in our homes! These are the ‘new gods’ of the 21st century that are so easily accessible that they will become part of the integrated digital electronic devices every home will own one day! The choice of selecting the device components will be taken away as the system will be fully integrated! Not only children will be playing, parents will be joining them. It’s a scenario that cannot be changed and time will prove this is going to be the case – and it not going to take too long for this to happen!

The Name of Jesus is above all names. He is to be exalted and as chosen people, we are to worship Him and Him alone. We must not worship other gods (Exodus 20:3). Before you logged into the video game, before you swipe your credit card to purchase the equipment, call upon the Name of Jesus to give you the wisdom because not just you, but your children’s well-being – both spiritual and non-spiritual – is at stake! The altar of the god of video game is going to be very difficult to destroy once you have allowed it to be part of your home!

(3) The divine election that God chooses us to be His children promotes holiness

God has commanded us to be holy as we can read in the Scripture: Be ye holy: for I am holy (1 Peter 2:16). The essence of holiness and His kingdom is further revealed in Hebrews 12:14: Follow peace with all men, and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. But what exactly is the word “HOLY’ meant? It is an adjective word that describes the attribute of God. As we can see that God is the Creator of all things, He is outside the physical realm of time and space. God is completely set apart from us in that the laws of science do not apply to Him neither He is bound by the world, nor the things of the world. When God instructed us to be holy, we too must be separated from the world. We must not be bound by the world, nor the things of the world. Of course, as created beings of God and we are inside the physical realm of time and space, and hence the laws of science do apply to us. This is ‘holiness’ is not about set apart ourselves from the physical laws of science; it is about our actions, motives, thoughts, and desires, and having the mind of Christ – loving what He loves, hating what He hates, and measuring everything in the world by the standard of His word. Being holy is shunning every sin, keeping every commandment, having our mind toward God and the heartfelt desire to do His will.

I must admit this is a near-impossible task for us to accomplish because our corrupted mind is always going the opposite direction from the mind of Christ. The world is too attractive to our eyes! No psychiatrist nor psychologist can cure us from this disease in taking our eyes away from the world’s attraction. But God can. By taking the daily dose of His word through our serious study of the Bible, God will give us the precise direction where to fix our eyes as one hymn writer has perfectly expressed: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim”.

(4) The divine election that God chooses us to be His children gives strength

We can see from history that ancient kings and emperors built mighty fortresses and great walls to protect their countries. But history tells us that none could survive. Yes, for a little while, those mighty fortresses or great walls were effective in preventing the invading enemies but soon they fell into pieces. Today, these once-great and mighty fortresses and walls are mere tourist attractions! It was even reported that farmers and the villagers living near the Great Wall of China have stolen the Great Wall's bricks and used them to build houses. These once-mighty ‘towers’ are slowly disintegrating into dust, and at best they have become the building blocks for the poor farmers to build their houses.

When God has chosen us to be His children, we have nothing to fear because the name of our Lord is a strong tower. We can be assured that we can fully rely on this tower to keep us safe (Proverbs 18:10). Unlike the fortresses and the great walls of the lost empire, the strong tower of the Lord will never be destroyed. The name of Jesus the Lord occurs more than 80 times in the New Testament and His name is to us a source of strength, of safety. It is a strong tower. We should "run to it.”

(5) The divine election that God chooses us to be His children produces joy

Pleasure seeking and pleasure finding is a pastime as old as the history of mankind. More often than not, our pleasure comes from external sources, and we all knew too well that no matter how much pleasure we are fed with, it lasted only for a short season. Many years ago, I was once introduced to a friend who was a keen enthusiast in audio stereo system. One day, I went with him to a sound system showroom to listen to the 'latest' audio equipment. I was amazed at the sound quality even though that was before the surround-sound technology. As you listen, you literally felt that you were right inside a concert hall. The music was just simply crystal clear and sharp. Seeing me so amazed with the sound quality, my friend quickly commented, “It’s not surprising you are so amazed with the sound. When I first came to the showroom, I too was very amazed with the system. But let me tell you that after you have purchased the system within the next few months you will not be satisfied with the sound quality. You will want to upgrade the system!” Nothing can satisfy our pleasure-hunger and we always want to upgrade our possessions to better quality. This is not just the sound system but anything and everything that has the potential to fill our hunger for pleasure, and often this never-ending cycle of chasing for things or upgrading our desires seems to bring more strives than joy! This is what world pleasure seekers always ended up and frankly I am no exception.

As Christians, we can rejoice because the source of our joy is not from, or of this world. In Luke 10:20, Jesus told us that rather than rejoice with what the world can provide, we rejoice because our names are written in heaven, in the Book of Life. We must therefore look upward rather than outward for our real source of joy is from Christ Jesus who has given up Himself on the cross so that we can enjoy the full and complete provision from our Heavenly Father. We can truly be joyful and be thankful to our Heavenly Father because through the Holy Spirit, the secret things of our God’s identity of who He is is revealed to us (Luke 10:22).

Dear psalm. I enjoy reading your posts although I do not have the same belief. There are good lessons in them and I'm sure your fellow Christians appreciate and benefit from them.

My point today is that You really should consider drifters points on the authencity of any scripture. If there is gods word written somewhere then surely God will protect those words from any inaccuracy and contradiction. However it us now proven that a major portion of the bible was written by ordinary ppl (scribes) who wrote down mainly from hearsay and also what they thought ought to be in the bible.

We have been through this road many many times and surely we will go thru the same countless of times more. Isnt it one way of God trying to show you the way ?

One last point is that if we want to search and find the truth shouldn't we be able to look for and find the original scripture? One which has never been changed from day one?

Just my humble thoughts. May God reward you for your efforts and guide us all.

Dear guy-uninterrupted,

It is not that I don't like to engage with people in the conversation. As you can see for yourself, most of the time I reply to your questions, and to several other as well. The reason is very simple - you appear very educated, reasonable and needless to say a respectable person. I don't know your age, occupation but I think you are one of those persons worthy to be friends with. I really wish you well.

I don't engage with people who use vulgar language, using vulgar signs, etc. Every conversation that we have (for me as a Christian) should liftup one another. We all can disagree. Even among the most 'senior' religious leaders whether they are Muslim, Toaists, Buddhists or Christians, they do disagree. In the secular world, we have the lower courts (i.e. magistrate, district courts), the High Court, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the Parliament (which in fact is the highest court of the law in the land). The fact that there are so many level of courts point to us that even among learned judges, they disgree and lawyers can appeal to the high court and sometimes we see the high court gave exactly the opposite rulings from that the lower court. I really regretted so much after I have exchanged emails with some critics whose vulgarity of words is beyond comprehension! As was advised by one of a godly readers here, I better spend my time focusing on my messages and sharing with people about God's love.

Having said all these, I must admit that I am no theologian, just an ordinary Christians trying to share the Gospel of Jesus with others as God has commanded.

Like all religions, believers believe by faith, and the fact the Bible is few thousands years old and have gone from microscopic scrutiny by scholars of diverse backgrounds - scientists, mathematicians, philosophy, historians, etc - and survive till now points to the fact that this is truly extraordinary.

Hope this will help and actually, those questions you raised can be found in the internet. Just google for the topics but again, at the end it's your choice to believe or not. There are more benefits (or rather every benefit) to believe that there is God than not to believe - morally, spiritually, humanly - you will lose nothing by believing there is God.

Just look - what follows after this is again endless vulgar words, vulgar attachments! But all glory to God, they are just a small number but by and large readers of this threads are really respectable people. I believe some agree to my messages and some disagree. By all means, disagree if you don't agree but don't abuse Sammyboy Forum generosity. We post this without any fee and the minimum we could offer is to write something without the use of vulgar language.

God Bless

Today’s Scripture Reading [February 13, 2011]

And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. [Mark 14:18. KJV]

Trust is a wonderful thing. It allows us to develop deeper bonds with those around us, to build strong connections. When we really trust someone, it means that we don't have to be on-guard all the time with him or her. But trust takes time to build - months or years, and unfortunately in some instances the very person whom we have put our complete trust has betrayed us. I believe everyone of us has been betrayed by our friends, and I too believe that everyone of us has betrayed our friends. Without exception, in my honest belief, we are both villain and victim of this cruel game of betray at some point of our lives. The only difference in this game of betrayal among us is to what extent we betrayed our friends and conversely to what extent our friends betrayed us.

Perhaps the greatest story of betrayal known to many people, especially Christians is the betrayal of Jesus by His chosen Apostle, Judas Iscariot. Judas was one of Jesus' closest disciples for more than three years. They had traveled together, worked together, shared meals together - including the last meal with our Lord before He was sent to the cross. In spite of the close relationship, Judas betrayed Jesus, and he did all for thirty pieces of silver! The wound of betrayal does not come from the hand of someone distant from and unknown to Jesus: it is dealt Him by one of His closest friends. Sadly, this is often the case. People who betrayed us are the one closest to us. Likewise, when we betrayed someone, it is very likely that he or she is going to our close friends.

The betrayer of Jesus by Judas continues till this day. Many of us are living like traitors to our Lord. However, the scope of our betrayal is not quite the same as what Judas did. Our Lord will never be sent to the cross. He has already done it and this episode of Christ going to the cross will never be repeated. Instead, our betrayal is in the form of selling Him out to pursue what seems pleasing in this world. The things we do, day in, day out – our speech, our thoughts and our actions – collectively are the things that we betrayed our Lord Jesus. One important lesson that we can draw from the betrayal by Judas is because of greed for money. Another possible reason was that Judas might want to get into the good book of the high priests. High priests in biblical days were very influential and powerful. They had direct access to the governors and the rulers. So, it was quite obvious that people would like to associate with them and get into the inner circle. Judas knew that the high priests wanted Jesus to be dead, and what better way for him to build his connection with the high priests than to betray Jesus. Through this betray, he got both the money and the priestly connection. This is no different from today. Many of us want to get into the inner circle of people of authority and it’s therefore not uncommon to compromise our moral or ethnics “just to get into their good books.” But the end results of Judas folly is anything but tragic! He became so wracked with guilt over what he had done that he hanged himself (Matthew 27:5) because he considered himself beyond God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Judas has taught us another great lesson with eternal consequence. Can the chosen people of God be really foresaken by God? Are we absolutely sure of our salvation? Once save always saved – is this biblical? There are several scripture verses that are used quite frequently by preachers and pastors to support the doctrine of once save always saved. These are: I will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8; Joshua 1:5; Hebrews 13:5); I am with you always, even unto the end of the world (Matthew 28:20). In relation to the spiritual well-being and our walk with Jesus, I personally find that this “once saved always saved doctrine” poses graved danger to believers. We must began to understand the spiritual context of those verses such as how, and why these verses were written or spoken, and to whom these verses were particularly applied to. We must realize that the doctrine of once saved always saved has eternal consequences, and prayerfully we can correctly discern the lessons taught by these verses and not to just take comfort to continue to embark on our sin-infested lifestyle and still hope that God will be still on our side – no matter what we do! Remember, Judas was one of the handpicked twelve disciples of Jesus and we can find some remarkable facts about Judas:

• He was personally chosen to be an apostle by Jesus Christ.
• He forsook all to follow the Lord.
• He spent three and a half years traveling the length and breadth of Israel with Christ.
• He saw most miracles of Christ in person.
• He heard Christ give all his famous discourses.
• He watched as Christ healed the sick, raised the dead and cast out demons.
• He, along with the other apostles, was sent out to preach the gospel.
• He ate the last meal with Jesus beforeJesus was crucified.
• He was one of the leaders of the apostolic band.
• No one ever suspected him of treason.

We can summarize the spiritual life of Judas in these few words: he saw, he walked, he talked and he ate with the Son of God every moment of his life for three long years! In terms of experience, whatever you can say about James, Peter and John, you can say also about Judas. Everywhere they went, he also went. He was right there, always by the side of Jesus. He heard it all, saw it all, experienced it all. Can anyone come so close to Jesus, other than the twelve apostles? There might be few of them in Jesus time for which we were not told but certainly no one could get this close to Jesus after He was raised from the dead and subsequently ascended to heaven. So, how could he betrayed Jesus and was prepared to hand Jesus to the high priests who took Jesus to Pilate that finally ordered the execution of our Lord? What causes Judas to sin against the Son of God – greed for money, greed for authority as mentioned above?

We must also remind ourselves that sin is progressive and that you don’t need to commit ‘big’ sin to face serious consequences. In the case of Judas, his greed for just thirty pieces of silver, and perhaps to be in the good book of the high priests led him to betray the Son of God. No sinful act is just a simple sin and unless we repent – no matter how small or insignificant our sin is - and ask God's forgiveness it can become a stepping stone that leads us deeper into rebellion against our Lord. This is no different from the act of betrayal of what Judas did to Jesus. All our rebellions against God are our active and conscious efforts calculated to willfully and sinfully benefit ourselves without due regard to teaching of the word of God and we must realize that our God takes no pleasure in them. In fact, every of our rebellious behaviour whether in word or in deed could potentially grieve the Holy Spirit which we are told to avoid (Ephesians 4:30).

Let the life story of Judas’ betrayal be our guide. The scripture verses in Deuteronomy 31:8; Joshua 1:5; Hebrews 13:5 and Matthew 28:20 to support the ‘once saved always saved’ must be taken into correct biblical context. These are verses that are written in relations to service for God. When God anointed Joshua to replace Moses, God comforted Joshua with these words: I will never leave you nor forsake you. Before Jesus was ascended to heaven, He commanded His disciples to go and preach the gospel to the whole world and He comforted His disciples that He will be with them always even until the very last moment. So, my dear brothers and sisters-in-Christ, don’t expect Jesus to be at your side when you are planning to cheat people! The only guaranteed to our salvation is clearly spoken to us by our Lord Jesus: Repent and be saved! God will not allow anyone, including Satan, to snatch His people away. Nonetheless, if we refuse to continue to let God handles our affair and prefer to go our way, He will not force us to submit to Him unwillingly. God will let us go our way because He will not force us to do anything that is against our own will. The lesson on Judas’ betrayal is the best story to remind us that we can be His chosen elects but our destiny to His kingdom must be relentlessly pursued. As a matter of our daily living, we must make our living as a sacrifice which is our service to Him (Romans 12:1), and nothing could please our God more than letting our lives not conforming to this world because this is the best way to fulfill our absolute allegiance to Him and not falling into the mode of betrayal His trust, His love, His commanments and His teaching. And we can confidently take comfort that if we are pursuing His will He will not foresake us nor leave, and He will be with us at every moment of our lives. What our God had promised to Joshua for continuing the good work of Moses, and to His disciples for sharing the Gospel, God too will deliver the same promise to us if we continue the good work of His disciples by sharing the Gospel.
