So, cadreship has served its purpose for ensuring that he remains as the top person in NTUC and upon his golden handshake there, there is no longer any use for being a cadre anymore, and there he resigns so as to get higher ranking job, ie. President... pardon me for being so direct.

Another question, since he is not a PAP-cadre reject, what is the explanation for his post 2008 resentment against the PAP? He was not given the opportunity to be an MP despite his loyalty?

Here is what those in the inner circle have come to believe. He became upset when he found out that the new CEO, a man who he had in brought as a director not only got his job but got double his pay. The double pay is a fact and I did feel sorry for him. The guy was also Malaysian. I am sure anyone in his position would have felt royally screwed. When you helm a cooperative, you certainly do not expect market pay and he rightly felt stepped on.

I am glad you mentioned this. It is something that been lost to most people. He was the longest surving 1st tier NTUC leader. Even Devan was taken out and put in the Istana. The only other person who was longer and stronger was Ho See Beng, the former MP and whose daughter became an MP.
