Our PM did the right thing to call for a Review, to allay the concerns of citizens over seemingly supposed 'Conflict of interest' over the petty issue of Ministers renting property, although NO laws were broken in the course of their appointed roles & duties nor the 2005 code of conduct for Ministers overturned, except probably mis-interpretations of laws either ignorantly or wilfully misused for envy or petty political purposes.
Ministers are public figures, & thus are often subject to scrutiny by the general public as well as political opponents. However, if every single foot step a Minister makes is subject to such scrutiny, & he have to answer to reviews, then a TRUE conflict of interest arises - how much time will he be left with to perform his duty as a Minister? In the end, WHO will administer & govern the country, or even want to if it means answering every single foot step he makes?
Political opponents will claim that if no one wants to run the country, then they will take over the govt. Regardless if they are capable or not, it is irrelevant. What is relevant is that THEY TOO will be subjected to the same level of scrutiny by the public & political figures.
Then what are we citizens left with? There are far more relevant national issues to deal with in terms of economic & societal aspects, than to waste time, resources & effort on frivolous petty circus theatrics in our political system.
