There are some Japanese sympathizers here who are apologists for everything regarding Japan. They will say Jap invasion ended Asia colonization but that was the results of WW2, never the purpose of Japan invasion. If use same logic then Chinese should thank Japan Govt for her invasion because their beloved Chinese Communist party was the greatest beneficiary of that war.

Some peoples here also claimed abandonment of Nanjing by KMT troops, to preserve fighting strength against CCP troops which are completely untrue. You have to consider KMT overall battle strategies back then, the battle that must be fought was done in Shanghai for three months. Shanghai-Nanjing defense network was linked, once Shanghai was lost, Nanjing was indefensible.

Well...its easy to talk on hindsight...but how many lives are lost due to betrayal by fellow Chinese men...even today...there are Chinese who won't hesitate to betray their parents for money..

Japan's war aim wasn't to liberate the colonies, it was to take over the role of western colonists in what it called the Great Eastern Co-Prosperity Sphere, defined as from Manchuria to Indonesia.

You may be right but there were many versions and some others may be right too. Nobody knows for sure now. One story about the Shanghai-Nanjing strategic defence link originally meant to be if KMT couldn't hold Shanghai, their full force would fortify Nanjing to prevent Japanese troops from breaching further south.

It was estimated that the cost of holding Japanese troops at the line would be at least half of KMT troops being decimated. The Japanese would have suffered huge losses in the stalemate too and would then be ready to negotiate again. Finally, when Shanghai really fell, the decision called was to withdraw westward and leave the Japanese a free hand all down south, obviously because of CCP in the equation.

War is war. Call it strategic withdrawal or abandonment, the people stranded in Nanjing there and then to be massacred were pitiful but just unfortunately at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Chiang moved his war-time capital from Nanking to Chungking mainly because he saw Mao and the CCP as a greater threat to his rule than the invading Japanese forces. He just wanted to preserve his fighting capability. True enough after that, the Japanese army made little headway on the battlefront because the interior of the Chinese mainland is very different from the coastal regions. Later Chiang was 'forced' to cooperate with the CCP and agreed to fight the Japanese only after his kidnap in the famous Xian Incident.
