Re: Living in JB 3 (Johore)

Another big and dangerous trap by BN.

"....Both PAS and PKR have offered DAP their party tickets to field its candidates following the suspension of DAP’s central executive committee by Registrar of Societies (ROS).

This was announced at a joint press conference this evening by the secretaries-general of all three Pakatan Rakyat parties - Lim Guan Eng of DAP, Mustafa Ali from PAS and Saifuddin Nasution of PKR...."

PAS a Malay chauvinist party. DAP a Chinese chauvinist party. I can imagine both holding hand in hand.

can msians vote @ msia high com in sinkielan? ...

Hi there, I guess you don't really follow the election news. Msians in Sg are not considered as overseas voters, meaning we have to return to Msia to vote physically.

Unfortunately, Malaysian politics have been along racial lines a long time. What is fortunate is that most major parties(be it ruling or opposition) are trying with some success to transform to represent all Malaysians, with lots hiccups along the way. Even PAS is more receptive of non muslims nowadays.

Re: Living in JB 3 (Johore)

My hope is that in future there will be no race-based parties. We all are Malaysian but there is a lot to be done. The diversity in Malaysia is a double edge sword, done correctly we will have a bright future.

Re: Living in JB 3 (Johore)

I love Najib and I hope he can continue to serve as PM of my country. Anwar is a snake. When he was young, he was the first wanting to bathe in CHINESE BLOOD is his rallies. Recently he was encouraging Malays to welcome the chinese and treat us as equal. Maybe the various sodomy charges wake up his idea already.

BN has to win. If Opposition forms the government, a racial riot is in the line. UMNO pple dont like to lose. IF opposition win a few State still ok. No riot like the last election. IF they capture putrajaya, Malaysia will enter years of chaos before stablising. Will the economy go up no one will know but many think they will go up. Still, they are not god. But what I know is that under BN, Malaysia has progressed. If opposition wins, Sporeans and foreigners will be kicked out or discouraged from staying in JB. Lim Kit Siang the opposition heavyweight has declared he is contesting Gelang Patah. If he wins, he will be MP for Puteri Harbour, Legoland and the financial centre of Medini. He has declared openly that Sporeans and expats have pushed up prices in JB and the BN is not doing anything. So if he becomes MP or Johor is lost to opposition, Sporeans and those earning Spore money are definitely not welcomed in Iskandar to invest even though they can stay there.

If I am a Malaysian, why would I welcome foreigners to come into my land and enjoy cheap food and petrol? Its quite logical. Sporeans are griping about foreigners in Spore. Everywhere you dine in JB, you hear gripes about Sporeans pushing up all the prices in JB and Malaysia. True or not I cant say but the gripe is there and strong

Yes, I have heard it too. I had a recent debate with a SPR colleaque. He argued that it is Singaporeans are pushing up property price beyond the reach of the average local. Then I ask him why he do not buy and ride the tide, then reply is that he does not think the property prices now are logical. When I told him other than areas like HH, the rest of the development are mainly SPR purchase, he does not believe me. When I told him many of the development has a foreign ownership quota, he again does not believe me. He stays in a condo in JB and when I ask him if any of his neighbour are Singaporeans he cannot name any. The closest he got was a Singaporean married to a Malaysian.
I told him the average Chinese Singaporean are all fearfull of Johor crime reputation hence only very few will move to Johor. Even in my various property shopping trip last year, most of the sale person told me the pure Singaporean purchase are a small %.

The Johoreans and SPR benefited from working in Singapore and the strong dollar, I am sure in their heart they do not differentiate us and I have never felt I was treated differently in my shopping and mall visits in Johor. The Johoreans gain from the tourist dollar. Untill it reach a tipping point when JB is overwhelm wtih Singaporeans, I really do not see any benefit for DAP or PKR or PAS to change the policy 180 degree. The MM2H has been there for a while now, they got a number of big Singapore investments, I am sure Lim KS will not want to throw all these away.

I think Malaysian should really look at who can solve their bigger problem like crime, income desparity and corruption. As for crime, I do not see any solid proposal from either side. BN throws more cameras and bikes, but I think these are not solving the root cause. The government needs a more holistic approach to crime including finding out what is the social aspect that made these people commit crime. Does DAP and PK have a solution ? Looking at the news from Klang V I think it gotten worst over the past years.

For our Malaysian friend please do not take offence to what I write, No ill intend, In fact I hope Malaysia does well so that we can benefit from enjoying a safe holiday and a different life style when we go to bolehland !

At this point of time and looking at the current situation Msia is in; the only thing that matters now is that BN is voted out. They were given 56 yrs to rule and instead of being the richest SEA country because of the oil and timber, Msia is still a developing country.

PR may not seem ready, but they are our one and only chance of having a better Msia. It's time to give them a chance.

I believe that crimes are mainly a consequence of socio/economic conditions. If people are generally well educated, reasonably well paid jobs are plentiful for all due to a strong economy and good government, with good law and order enforced, crime rate should come down to large extent, leaving on the exceptionally hard core type to deal with. Many Malaysians are counting on PKR to deliver those conditions better than BN. It is likely to be a long struggle though.

Would making Malaysia a developed nation make a large majority happy ?

if you look at the road network in klang v, it is impressive. If you go to malacca, ipoh, kk you will be charmed. we all like our country to be better, but be careful how you do it. Singapore recent gdp growth as all of you know lead to over crowding and other negative effect. I think a number of them are less happy compared to say 5-7 yrs ago.

It's not so much as being a developed nation as knowing that the gov cronies are enriching themselves at the people's expense. By now, Msia should not be having so much poverty and the people of East Msia should have better roads and connectivity. Crime should have dropped and the education level should be better. Instead we hear of history being re-written and snatch thefts that causes the victim to die. Where's the basic safety and security?

Singapore is different because it lacks the physical space that Klang Valley has. But I wouldn't compare Sg with MY because both are different.

I think the unhappiness and dissatisfaction of Malaysians with government are many folds. I seem to gather at least the followings(my 2 cents):

1. Wide spread corruption, cronyism and nepotism: Big projects, highly lucrative businesses and economic opportunities almost always are given or awarded to parties who agree to give cuts of something like 5-100% of the deals to parties or middlemen, rent seekers with closed links to ruling parties and their leaders, government officials *and civil servants. Many of these rent seekers and fat cats in the present government and system are targets for sacking.*

Such corruption, cronyism and nepotism siphons off a very large chunk of the wealth of the country and represents a very big burden on *people in terms of taxes and deprivation of developments and services.

2. Corruptions and lack of integrity of the judiciary: when people suffer injustices at the hands of the rich and powerful, people with authorities, *these influential people have ways to gain advantage and escape unpunished, perpetuating non-closure and the suffering of the victims. In such environment, people feel unsecured as injustices could befall without reliable recourse any moment and happiness in life be taken away forever.

3. Racial politics: Country is run along racial and religious lines *in economy, civil service, uniformed service, educations,...etc. People do not want to be deprived(or insulted and told what they can do or cannot do) of their freedom and entitlements(in all aspects of life) *based on their races or religions. Such political situations contributed to the very severe *economical and political *marginalisations of smaller and weaker groups in society, forming the basis of instability in the country.*

4.*Efficiency of the government, civil service: Using Singapore as a benchmark as both starting off at about same level of socio-economic development some 50 plus years ago, Malaysia's *performance *leaves a lot of room for improvements.

Malaysia is endowed with abundance of resources with a land area about 500 times Singapore and population 6 times that of Singapore. Despite all these natural advantages, Malaysian government has been delivering an economy with GDP about same size that of Singapore, per capita income 1/4 of Singapore with generally less advanced infrastructures, public services and educational levels and institutions.

What is USB about?

SG have so many corruption cases recently and these are just the kuching kurak, the real big ones are LEEgalised and will not be uncovered. Many rich and foreigners in SG get away with crime or given light sentence too - eg Woffles Wu.

As for racial politics, I think it is okay to give unfair advantages to own people who are poor and disadvantaged in the society - especially if they are the majority - so that people don't become too poor and turn around to harm the minority rich.
