It's not about the false nine. It's about what I term "possession fundamentalism". Die die must keep the ball, don't wanna penetrate. It gives opponents time to organise their bus before parking it. Of course, Spain is good enough to score against packed defences. But at the top level, the margins of victory are very narrow. What Spain is doing is akin to Usain Bolt running blindfolded. Why make things hard for themselves?
