She had been suffering from symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease when she passed away in 1987.

In 1985, she became the face of Marianne or the French symbol of liberty. Recently, she has made headlines after signing an open letter that denounced the #MeToo movement.

Ava Gardner comes from South Carolina. MGM found her accent hard to understand but they signed her anyway. Her big break came when she starred in The Killers. She enjoyed five decades in Hollywood until her smoking habit caught up with her. Sadly, she died of pneumonia in 1990.

Good luck looking for a more fascinating lady than Hedy Lamarr. She was the first woman to depict the female orgasm onscreen, but she also worked on a technique used to fix radio signal jamming during WW2. She even got “frequency hopping” patented. It has been used in civilian and military devices.

Sadly, Sharon Tate is always going to be associated with the Manson family killings. Praised for her natural beauty, she entered the scene as a promising new actress who can do both comedy and drama. She married Roman Polanski, her The Fearless Vampire Killers costar and director in 1968. The saddest part of her death was that she was 8 months pregnant when she was murdered.

Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman became famous after starring in Casablanca. She had been in Swedish and German films even before that. She has been described as “arguably the most international star in the history of entertainment.” Director Anatole Litvak even said that “through all her troubles she held to the conviction that she had been true to herself and it made her quite a person.” She died of breast cancer in 1982.
