Supergroups are like matches made in musical heaven. Indeed, some of these bands managed to make great music, but sadly most of them didn't last long. Musical talent abounds in supergroups, but so do big personalities that sometimes clash with each other. Still, some of the world's greatest musicians collaborated to create music that many of us love.

Cream -

Formed in 1966, Cream is considered the first supergroup ever formed. Cream was guitarist Eric Clapton (Yardbirds), drummer Ginger Baker (Graham Bond Organization) and bassist Jack Bruce (Manfred Mann).

The Highwaymen -

The Highwaymen is one of the greatest supergroups of all time. It brought together country music legends Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.

Velvet Revolver -

Guns N' Roses' members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum, teamed up with guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland to form Velvet Revolver. The supergroup enjoyed great success, particularly with their debut album 'Contraband,' released in 2004.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young -

It's safe to say that the name of this supergroup speaks for itself. The members were David Crosby (The Byrds), Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield), Graham Nash (The Hollies), and Neil Young (Buffalo Springfield).

Traveling Wilburys -

The Traveling Wilburys brought together some of the most talented musicians of a generation. We're talking about Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne.

The Dirty Mac's one-off performance in 1968 left everyone hungry for more, but sadly, it never happened again. The Dirty Mac were John Lennon (The Beatles), Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones), Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Eric Clapton (Yardbirds/Cream).

Audioslave -

This is not just Rage Against the Machine without vocalist Zack de la Rocha. Audioslave was a solid supergroup composed of Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and RATM members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Tim Commerford.

Prophets of Rage -

After Audioslave called it quits, the RATM members teamed up with Public Enemy's Chuck D and Cypress Hill's B-Real and formed yet another supergroup: Prophets of Rage.

The Honeydrippers -

After Led Zeppelin called it quits, singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page joined Jeff Beck (Yardbirds) and Nile Rodgers (Chic) and formed The Honeydrippers.

Formed in 1984, The Power Station was originally composed of singer Robert Palmer, Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor and bass player John Taylor, and Chic drummer Tony Thompson.

Rat Pack -

While the Rat Pack was a rather informal group, it was nonetheless a supergroup. Members included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford.

Them Crooked Vultures -

Them Crooked Vultures was a trio of rock royalty that recorded one album in 2009. They were Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) on the drums, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) on guitar and vocals, and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on the drums.

Electronic -

After The Smiths called it quits, guitarist Johnny Marr teamed up with New Order's Bernard Sumner and formed Electronic. Their first single, 'Getting Away with It,' featured Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys on vocals.
