It does not seem to be a fatigue failure, as that should propagate from the bottom up in a straight line.
My opinion would be that it's a manufacturing defect. Unrelieved stresses during production resulting in failure upon loading.
If true, hundreds of tracks are in jeopardy, as all are manufactured the same way.
We're fucked now.
