Wat u r recommending is impractical for the SAF to follow n they won't do it bcos it cost too much. From my opinion there is no need too. Bcos such a case is unlikely n a vehicle commander can do wat in such a scenario? If saf have to follow such a rule than wat about all the cars on the road? I don't see why my statement is wrong. This vehicle commander shit has always been a big joke. When I was in the army we often came across vehicle commanders who did not have a driving license and couldn't even ride a bicycle. Yet they were assigned the job just because they were NCOs or officers who were sitting in the front passenger seat.

This was what I have questioned my OC during 1 of my reservist, but he couldn't give me a satisfactory answer. For them, qualified educational qualification prevails over the necessary skills qualifications, which to me is wrong as I had given an analogy of "asking the doctor to repair a TV" post above.

Tat why the forumner wants compulsory vehicle commander training. To make it safer though I don't see how it would help. N anyone can be vehicle commander. It's like a given temporary appointment. Even the supply clerk or storeman or cook can be vehicle commander. Not only NCO. If 2 chaps go out, The driver n cook to collect some item for the CO dinner, the cook automatically becomes a vehicle commander. Even mess boy can hold the title.
