During 1 instance in my reservist, my 3-ton driver had told me that they had even put reservists with no driving license as vehicle commanders before. I was like: What the fuck? How can these reservists be assigned as vehicle commanders when they don't even know how to drive a vehicle? It's fucking inappropriate and ridiculous, especially in times of emergency. I considered myself qualified since I have Classses 2A to 5. I then brought this up to my OC on why they are assigning reservists with inappropriate qualification to their vocations? As expected, he just couldn't answer to me satisfactorily. What the fuck is MINDEF doing?

For the SAF,,,the vehicle commander is not really a commander in the true sense of the word, Its more like an 'overseer' just to keep a look out for the driver, ensure the driver dont sleep, tell driver slow down, reach the camp, sign in, give 11B etc etc,,,not like to command the driver like in military maneuvers or in the movies
Are the commanders reservists too? I tend to believe they are. They're just going through the motion to complete their cycle. Hence, they are not professional operators of these ultra heavy and dangerous equipment. The blind leading the blind, and the ones at the bottom of the totem pole suffer.

Usually reservist commanders. But my reservist unit had a mutiny and refused to move out for exercise because of fcuked up reservist commanders, HQ panic and a regular CO had to be parachuted in to save the day. Reservist CO was given the sack and finger by the men. Power to the men. None of the men were charged.
I thought it was the reservist commanders tat had more common sense n closer to the men than those regulars. Normally regulars r the guailan ones
What can I say, my unit was blessed with a bunch of CCB mofos reservist ocifers with shit for brains. They acted like a bunch of elitist shits while the rest of the men were training. They got caught by the men, news spread, mutiny.
Exactly, I question the competence and ability of reservist commanders. They are obliged to perform their reservist duties just the same as NCOs. But the danger is when they fucked up, others suffer, some die. Good on you and your fellow reservists for not taking BS.
When placed in-charged of massive war machines, I would rather a regular, professional person be at the wheel or in command. That's his rice bowl, that's all he does year in, year out. Not some guy who doesn't want to be there, and has a career elsewhere.
