Well one small Israel went to war with bigger Arab countries - not one country but several - with population far larger.

What's stopping Singapore with its aircraft, navies and a million soldiers and reservists - plus troops all over the world (Taiwan, Thailand, Brunei, Australia, USA, India...)? It is no small fry.

Yahoo singapore is as good as israel and we do have backing of a big country like the US.

Because the Arab countries were fighting among themselves while fighting Isreal.

Because most of American multi-billionaires paying lobbies are Jews, making America support Isreal through weapons and satellite espionage.

And you believe Malaysia will stand steadfast by Singapore while fighting China.

In WW2 Japan could cruise down all the way through to Indonesia because basically the majority native Viets, Thais, Malays, Pinoys and Indonesians in their hearts didn't mind or care. The only resistance came from SEA Chinese and Indian migrants, for their attachment of loyalties to ROC and the British Empire, the material entities at war with Japan. Realistically today, PLA would find it very challenging to hold and cross even Vietnam.

They were good too, but not that good. You're exaggerating your sarcasm. ;)

Anyway, the successful Japanese attacks on the British fleet at sea, American fleet at Pearl Harbor and landings on Philippines convinced the British they'd come at Singapore from the sea. Malaya was hardly defended but trouble was Thailand let them through. They took full advantage of that at full blitzkrieg speed. The loss of Malaya was a gross miscalculation on the British side as Japan held sea superiority at that time. Without Malaya, Singapore had no more supply of water, food and fuel.

Unbelievable the japs weren't that good?

Comeon the only race that sucks alot and isn't that good is china. The japs should be like gods amongst them.

Vietnam is a Communist entity, the last time I checked 5 min ago.
Vietnam is dependent on China for water as the Mekong's source is in Chinese territory.
Cross border trade between China and Vietnam is unrecorded and very profitable.
China can and will sign co-operation treaties with Vietnam on developing disputed territories, leaving Vietnam with no reason to ditch China.

Japan cruised down to SG not because Viets don't care. Japanese air craft that sunk Prince of Wales and Repulse were launched from HO CHIH MINH.

Exactly proving the point Viets didn't really care at the time. Japan took it without much resistance. It was part of French Indochina and France itself had fallen to Germany. It's well known after Japan surrendered, many Japanese soldiers gave their arms and ammos to Viets and Indonesians (then Dutch East Indies), who promptly used them to kick out the returning French and Dutch. See the difference when they were fighting seriously for a cause. The later fall of ROC on China mainland later made PRC dominant in north Indochina and it naturally supported the North Vietnamese communist movement. USA naturally supported capitalist South Vietnam, but ultimately in vain and in defeat. Again, see the difference when they were fighting seriously for a cause.

The relationship between PRC and Vietnam isn't on the same plane as between PRC and North Korea. There's no question that PLA shall be allowed into North Korea any time, but that's not the case with Vietnam. In fact, a border dispute war was fought between PRC and Vietnam in 1979.

What if Singapore goes to war with China? Unthinkable? I can think of three likely senarios. Those who are anti-FTs may wish to vent your views. Pro-FTs can proffer your views too. Differing views will add variety to the arguments.

Scenario 1
Then DPM Lee visited Taiwan in 2004 and met Taiwanese officials. This infuriated China, and said it "harms China's core interests" and it would have "consequences". After some token protests and actions, the Chinese gave face because LKY is his father, and is useful to China because he could explain the Chinese situation convincingly to America and Europe who love to listen to him talk about China.

Scenario 2
Japan patrol boat collided with a Chinese fishing boat in the Senkaku Island. Chinese boat sank, and all crew members perished. China sent warships and submarines to the Islands to confront Jap patrol boats. Singapore reiterated peaceful resolution. China viewed this as tacitly unsupportive of China. China issued warnings that those who did not support her, or condemn Japan, is her enemy. China sent more patrol boats and submarines to the Paracel Islands to lay claim. US 7th fleet aircraft carrier and escorts depart from Changi and headed north. This infuriates the Chinese, who warn of "consequences" for this "unfriendly act".

Scenario 3
China, economically most powerful now, flexes her muscles and becomes more belligerent with its new aircraft carrier. Wants to claim islands in the Paracel and Spratly for marine resources and oil and gas underneath. Send warships and patrol boats and station PLA troops on islands claimed by Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam - all ASEAN members. Asean issues strong protest condemning China - Singapore also a signatory. China angry with ASEAN and Singapore in particular.

US Aircraft carrier USS George Washington and escort ships on R&R and refuelling and replenishing supplies in Changi, take off north with much fanfare from western media. China angrier. Concludes that Singapore is in collusion with US imperialist. Expels ambassador from Beijing. Arrest some Singaporean workers in Suzhou and Shanghai for espionage. Chinese PRs and Chinese FTs in Singapore hold protests and demonstrate in many places. Many down tools. Loyal Singaporeans accuse Chinese PRs of ungratefulness, disloyalty and being traitors and throw stones at PRCs living in Geylang area, and Singapore bosses fire Chinese workers on reason of poor business from China. Technically Singapore is at war with China. China wants to make Singapore a whipping boy to taunt USA. Incidentently SM Lee not around anymore to champion for Singapore.

Possible? Probable? Probably? Unlikely? Never know? Anything can happen to small red dot.

amazing brain?! don't worry, if china would, all the sg gals already followed ang mos to their countries and well taken care (fcuk) by them. those would die here are born losers.

If Thailand really fight the Japan the history will be different. Even Japan manage to win over Thai there will be not much army left to cycle down from Thai to Singapore. Most probably Japan troop will stop in Melaka. Singapore will be spare.
Thai from the history don't have much war from outside, maybe the King have no ball.
But they always have power coup internally.

And Vietnam lost.

There're some anti-PRC counter-claim versions that Vietnam actually won. But stark fact is, Vietnam lost. PLA chased the Viet troops deep in within miles outside Hanoi, and they were preparing to hold Hanoi to the death. However, with the limited war objective of reclaiming disputed border achieved, PLA withdrew back to the border. Did and could Viet troops chase them back? Obviously no. That was a PRC success on both military and diplomatic fronts. The subsequent ceasefire and negotiation could be conducted amicably since no huge damages and casualties were inflicted.

The late Qing - ROC period saw some of China's worst war records in its history. However, PRC hasn't lost a single war yet, versus ROC, versus S. Korea / USA, versus India and versus Vietnam. There was even a minor confrontation with USSR along the Mongolian - Manchurian border areas when relations fell out and PRC demanded USSR withdrawal of troops stationed there. (Something like USA stationing troops in UK as allies.) After some banging tables and clandestine posings, USSR backed down and withdrew.

putting PRC war records into perspective.

CCP linkup with Russians was why they can defeat KMT in 1949. United States wasn't looking to win Korean war but a truce all along. General MacArthur wanted to win the war. Truman dismissed MacArthur and limited the Korean war. ( the works of Russian agents in US govt ) China and North Vietnam won Vietnam war after US congress cut off funding to South Vietnam.

China do not need to invade a country by force, just by sending their miilions of PRC workers, especially females to settle down in SG. The next generation or after next, the Chinese will take control of the whole island.

First by getting an ex-PRC as MP and Minister.

That's true. But warfare isn't about the military front only. It's a combination of military and non-military strategies and circumstances. It's just like football. If the Liverpool board isn't releasing funds for better players, that doesn't take anything away from Manchester United beating Liverpool however much the Liverpool fans thought what could have been. Or England blaming not winning the World Cup on Michael Owen injury or Wayne Rooney sending-off. Lose is lose. Draw is draw. Win is win.

I agree with you.
It's just that I felt PRC "victories" in China, Korea and Vietnam had more to do with geopolitical circumstances, Russian involvement and espionage against US govt than their military success on the battlefield.

Against India, it helps when it's a country that on average crashes one warplane per month over decades even without war or enemy. :D

Instead of talk about next-to-impossiblity of Singapore going to war with PRC, why not talk about ROC Taiwan going to war with PRC. It's getting more and more remote by the day but PRC has never renounced 武力统一 and ROC has never renounced 反攻大陆。
