[Singapore] - 16 cyclists arrested by Traffic Police & LTA for beating red light and riding against traffic flow on Apr 17 & 18

It’s quite a lot to bring for a long ride... spare tube, CO2 canister, tools, nutrition bars, money, masks...
Realistically how many people actually repair a flat? Half the people I know just hail a cab. Disc wheels are much harder to take out compared to quick release too.

With some experience, it is faster to repair than to hail a cab, especially if you’re stuck somewhere remote during unearthly hours. I’m very cooperative, Sinkies don’t like me to cycle during busy hours, so I ride either at night or early morning

The amount of cyclists bullying others on the road is increasing because these cyclists knows they get away with it and no consequence to them. This is nothing but the tyranny of the minority n akin to legalising crime.

Tay Ping Hui has 'nothing against cyclists’, thinks current system can be better
21 Apr 2021
The actor recently shared a two-part follow-up to his initial Instagram post where he called out a group of cyclists for dangerous behaviour.

Singaporean actor Tay Ping Hui has once again taken to Instagram to share his thoughts about unsafe cycling practices, after initially posting earlier in April about a group of cyclists he had encountered.

Tay shared two Instagram posts late last week to thank netizens for their support for his initial post, and to address the issue once again.

He wrote: "It’s been a while since my last post and the furore that followed was unexpectedly explosive. It’s absolutely heartwarming that so many people, drivers and cyclists alike, supported me on so (many) levels. Thank y’all for your affirmation!”

In his original post on Apr 1, the 50-year-old actor posted dashcam footage that showed a group of cyclists who came into his right of way without slowing down, which resulted in him having to brake sharply to avoid collision.

Tay then suggested that registration of bicycles should be mandatory in Singapore so that all cyclists will have a license plate for easy identification. This fired up a huge debate with numerous people weighing in on the necessity of such a measure.

He gave a more detailed account of the incident in his most recent post to show that he was placed at risk because of the cyclists’ irresponsible riding. Despite receiving support from the public, Tay also faced criticism from some netizens who accused the star of having a “big ego”. “One cannot help but feel the irony when so many of those who righteously chastised me for not being gracious enough, have done so with pretty ungracious words,” he wrote.

He clarified that he’s not the enemy. “I have nothing against cyclists in general. If anything, I actually think we should encourage cycling as a healthy, alternative way of transportation and leisure. That is why we need to move toward making it safer for everyone, cyclists and motorists alike, and the current system can definitely do much better.”

The actor highlighted the need to hold irresponsible cyclists accountable for their actions “because they are the primary culprits that are destroying the reputation of the entire cycling community”.

He ended the post by saying that cyclists and motorists need to “stop this degradation before it’s too late”, or else they will face “implementation of extreme corrective measures because of some major loss of lives, and cycling meets the same sorrowful demise as our beloved PMDs”.

Safety first, everyone!

Just a few points:
1) Tay PingHui, this “has been”, this “forgotten”, struggling actor... capitalising on a hot topic to make himself relevant
2) Errant cyclists should be fucked, sure. However he could not hide his desire to “generalise” all cyclists as bullies.
3) There are proportionately a lot more asshole drivers than cyclists
4) Don’t kid me that cyclists are bullying cars. In Sinkieland, lorries bully cars, cars bully bikes, motorcycles bully bicycles.

Road pricing is for keeping traffic smooth and moving hence economy move.

These Kamikaze help? or cause tail-back congestion?

CHARGE THEM FOR USAGE LIKE OTHER GROWNUP ROAD USERS.

COE,ERP,LIC,INS,HEIGHWAY CODE,TEST,ARF.

Wanna act big pay big money like the rest of us

AND STOP FIGHTING FOR YOUR 1 INCH OF ROAD SPACE AGAINST HGVS!

Ride like a Kamikazie 3 tonner towards traffic junction when light is green.

When light change to red act like a pedestrian ride across zebra crossing ignoring humans.

The continue on the other side ride like a Kamikazie 3 tonner again.

And fine them for showing road rage and the usual obscene gesture to other motorists.

Their cowardice is always accompanied by their bullying ways. Occupying entire lanes and holding traffic up.
And why are these idiotic cyclists not charged for breaking social distancing rules aka no more than 5 or 6 cyclists in a group?

Showing obscene gesture to other drivers allowed?. It's road rage

Ohhhhh .... so you assume cyclists are poor sods who can’t pay big money like you that’s why we have to ride a bicycle ?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

go check background of your average roadie before you expose your full stupidity

I don't understand why cyclists should be on the roads and treated as cars in the 1st place? Roads are designed for cars...paid for by petrol taxes, vehicle licences, COEs for the cars.
Yes countries built roads for cars and taxes is used for maintenence upgrading infrastructure.
But bicycles juz tap on it for convenience and did not even shelf out a single cents.
On the contrary, they flaunt their 20k bicycles their 2k tight tee shirts which add zero values to the roads other than costly accidents

Just look at the justifications by the cycling mafia n u see their attitude

Bikes are not cheap anymore and the top of the range bikes costing $20,000 or more. Many of the cyclists on the road already own cars and have already paid for their right to use the road via the COEs and taxes that they paid. If they opt not to use their cars and ride their bikes they still have already paid for the privilege.

Besides the idea that the right to use the road is based on the amount paid would mean that Toyotas need to give way to Porsches which in turn have to give way to Ferraris and Lambos and pretty much everyone has to give way to the Bugatti Veyron.
Tractors aren't cheap either but no one with the right mind would put them on the roads. That would be a public nuisance. :cautious:

There are plenty of tractors on the roads they are part and parcel of the transport system.

I often get stuck behind one. It is just a matter of having a bit of patience. They don't make much of a difference when it comes to the overall time it takes to make the journey.

Govt built roads for cars, not for those bicycles.
And we pay for usage

The roads are built for all modes of transport and bicycles were around long before cars appeared on the scene.

Exactly right. You hit one of us and you answer for it. So be smart. When you see us you suck it up, and overtake carefully and respectfully at a safe distance, and give your bloated ego a rest.

The behaviour of these professional-looking cyclists reminds me of those bullies who go in hordes to
tell other road-users "don't mess with us. The worse are those who join the ang mohs, and suddenly
they elevate themselves to being ang moh themselves. The authorities should be conducting their
exercises more often.

I sense the hatred towards road bikes are mixed up with hatred towards angmohs. On the other hand majority of you jokers are angmoh worshippers. Please get your fragile emotions sorted out.
