[Singapore] - 16 cyclists arrested by Traffic Police & LTA for beating red light and riding against traffic flow on Apr 17 & 18

So far all the vitriol against roadies can be summarised into a few points:

1) Cyclists have no right to be on the road

2) Point (1) is because cyclists do not pay road tax. This has been used against cyclists ad nauseam. Please read up on road tax before exposing your stupidity. And if you were correct, then the unemployed uncles and aunties should not be allowed to cross the street.

3) I pay more so get out of my way - prime example being maxxi's professed big money. We should all give way to Ferraris and Bentleys also?

4) Wearing proper jerseys and looking professional - this one I don't get. How on earth does that irk anyone? Jerseys are worn for aerodynamics, temperature regulation and muscle compression. What about joggers who wear running shorts and golfers who wear polos? Soccer players wearing club jerseys?

5) I want to run them down/hope someone runs them down - So do it ! Put your money where your mouth is instead of being a keyboard coward. Mow down an entire peloton and be the hero that eradicates all pest cyclists. Talk is cheap. But you can't. Because we have laws against that.

6) Errant and rude cyclists who run red lights etc etc - yes of course there are. Same as motorists who do illegal U turns, drink drive and never give way. But let's be clear: there has never been a motorist injured or killed by a cyclist. We do foolish things we pay the price. Just eat your popcorn, pop the champagne and don't interfere.

7) So many of them on the road. So dangerous ! - See point (6). We take the risks and we answer for it. It doesn't concern you. Go bother motorcyclists who weave in and out on the right lanes. Or scuba diving . Mountaineering. Off piste skiing. Whatever.

Having been riding on the road for 40 years I notice one thing. It's always the losers who give you grief. Bully a cyclist while hiding in the safety of their vehicles is their only moment of glory in an otherwise meaningless downtrodden life. This powder keg ignited because of some two bit actor trying to resuscitate his flat lining career and somehow managed to arouse a powerful witch to act in his favour.

Road is for everyone. Slowing down, keeping a lookout and overtake safely and politely is not a loss of manhood.

See you guys on the road :devilish:
Porcuputtana for President!

they fuck things up wherever they go. luckily, none of them can compete in tdf. otherwise, will talk bigcock here until cows cum home.
You are funny. According to your 69 year old brain, cyclists are great people but only in San Francisco, Cyclists in SG are fucked up morons. You insist Sinkies are cycling on expressways routinely because you could not figure out difference between expressways, viaducts and highway. You join in the tirade against cyclists, but only Sinkies’ cyclists. Talk about eat shit and die

don’t forget in netherlands too, cyclists are considerate and courteous. they always give way to trucks even though they have right of way knowing they can never win scuffles with trucks. in sg though cyclists think they are invincible and dare trucks to crush them.

Based on Porcuputtana's near hysterical reply can roughly gauge his IQ level.

Go and research gov's rational for road pricing. You think bicycles allow them to achieve target traffic speed?.

And since you are a one of these Kamikaze cyclist why:

Ride on expressways
Run red traffic lights
Ride on footpaths
Road hog
Ride across zebra crossings
Split lanes
Ride against traffic
ride 3 m away from the kerb

A cyclist was spotted swerving through traffic and cutting in front of cars along River Valley Road on Tuesday (Apr. 27) afternoon.

Police told Mothership on Thursday (Apr. 29) that a report has been lodged, and they are looking into the matter.

Swerved through traffic, took hands off handlebars
In a video posted on Facebook,

the cyclist could be seen trying to enter a lane where a car was already driving and placing his right hand on the car's window.

He then proceeded to swerve through traffic without making any hand signals to indicate when he was changing lanes.

The cyclist, whose upper half of his body was revealed because his top appeared to be unbuttoned,

also took his hands off of his bicycle's handlebars and rode with them in the air and by his side instead.

Cyclists should ride in "orderly manner"
According to the Road Traffic (Bicycle) Rules, bicycles on the road should be ridden in an "orderly manner":

"No bicycle, power-assisted bicycle, trishaw or tricycle shall be ridden or propelled otherwise than in an orderly manner and with due regard for the safety of others."

Cyclists are meant to ride their bicycles "as near as practicable to the far left edge of the road".

In addition, cyclists must indicate with their arms if they intend to stop, slow down, move to the left, or move to the right.

Their signals must be made with enough time to allow others on the road to react in time.

Cyclists who commit offences such as careless riding can face fines of S$75.

According to the Ministry of Transport's website, under the Road Traffic Act, the police will investigate if reckless cyclists endanger pedestrians or other road users, and physical injury is involved.

First time offenders may fined up to S$1,000 or jailed up to three months for riding in a disorderly manner and without due regard for the safety of others.

For a second or subsequent offence, cyclists may be fined S$2,000 or jailed up to six months.

Since you are not in SG, I don’t blame you for being misled by the batshit insanity spewed by a minority of ignorant sinkies. The cases of insane act exaggerated online is about.... 1 per day? Out of a road bike population of 20,000. That’s 0.005%. The cases of insane drivers are far higher... based on my observation at least 10% of Sinkies drivers have personal issues. You already know how ignorant sinkies are. They take a few bad apples and spread online how fucked up cyclists are. You should come back here and observe for yourself one day.

agree that sinkie drivers are just as bad if not badder than mexicans and russians. a good number of them who are fresh off the boat and plane in california cannot handle more than 69 mph on the freeways, especially when trucks and rigs are going at more than 69 mph or over the speed limit. they will also most likely get into an accident on narrow highways with 2-way traffic and no barrier nor center divider. 1 saf scholar got killed south of the grand canyon a few years ago. went over double yellow lines and hit a van headon. sinkies are not used to overtaking slower vehicles on bi-directional rural highways.

"near hysterical" leh...

'Go and research gov's rational for road pricing. You think bicycles allow them to achieve target traffic speed?'. Have you used your 95th percentile IQ to look this up?

Unlike the crazy driver on the roads cyclists cause very little danger to other road users. They could kill themselves but that's heaps better compared to the killer cars that roam the streets and cause more than 120 deaths every year.

The 120 deaths a year. How many are caused by cyclists?

Would a cyclist kill 2 and maim 4 in a fraction of a second??

If Ma Chi had been riding a bicycle and beat the traffic lights how many people would he have killed?.... other than himself.

If these Tokyo drift wannabes had been racing each other on bicycles would 5 people be dead if they crashed?

Would an innocent girlfriend end up being scarred for life?
