NEW DELHI - THE Singapore men's 4x200m freestyle relay team suffered the embarrassment of being disqualified from their final yesterday without even hitting the pool - all because they had failed to submit their entry for the final on time.

The team of Teo Zhen Ren, Jeremy Kevin Mathews, Arren Quek and Mattias Ng had clocked 7min 47.19sec in their heat in the morning to qualify for the final as the seventh-fastest team.

However, the quartet's joy subsequently turned into anxiety and later disappointment when they missed the 3pm deadline for submitting their entry for the final. The bus ferrying the squad had arrived at the venue only at 3.45pm due to traffic delays.

Team manager and head coach Ang Peng Siong said in a statement issued by Team Singapore: 'It usually takes us about 20 to 30 minutes to reach the Dr S.P. Mukherjee Swimming Complex. Today, it took us about an hour to reach the swimming complex.'

The final was at 6pm, but the squad had left at 2.45pm so that 'the team would not have to wait at the venue for too long before their event', said Ang.

He added: 'We lodged an appeal with the competitions manager, which was signed by all the head coaches of the other teams in the final, but we were not successful.'

I say this to Ang Peng Siong - With such a big responsibility at hand wouldn't you want to set out to your destination 2 hours earlier. Reaching early at a competition venue can calm nerves once you get familiarize with the surroundings.

These days we have a lot of key people coming out to apologize for their own inefficiency but we dont see any body getting the sack or stepping down after their simple wayang apology.:oIo:

Others team also face traffic jam but they still able to be punctual.
Fuck the management not the organizer. The official have to be very strict with the rules if not all team will check in late next time. Then whole games will be mess up.

That Sinkie culture always late for appointment, wedding, interview....................

I agree man. Last time, I used to be early for appointments, now I also come late because most of my friends end up being late, end up make me stand and wait there like a goon.

I can't believe Ang Peng Siong cock up so badly. His reputation has taken a big heat. WTF, just get to the venue early, cannot meh? The deadline is 3pm, and they left their homebase at 2.45pm? How can blame the traffic like that? 15 mins is not enough time, as he himself said it takes 30mins to get to the venue.

I hope he joins PAP as candidate.

APS is of course a PAPpydog. What a ridiculous piece of turd this guy is. It normally takes 20-30 minutes to reach their destination which had a deadline of 3pm but they left their premises at 2.45pm. This SOB does timings as part ofhis job and he cant discern what time to leave in order to reach the destination on time. Fine the bastard six month's salary and teach him a lesson! :oIo:

APS never blame himself for bad management. Blame/complaint everything else traffic jam, official reject appeal,.......................
Just get to the venue 30 min early is not a big deal compare waiting 4 year for the game.
Reaching there early also can start preparation, motivation, meeting.......
APS should be fire. Still talk so ya ya and cocky. All learn from it master PAP, Vivian over budget still yaya...

Just submit form what... Shd just ask one runner rent motortaxi and go earlier

APS is the kind of guy who will blame puss too loose, bed too soft / hard, room too hot / cold, condom too thick etc when he cannot get an erection.

If they are top 3 fastest teams, none of the head coaches of other teams will help to sign the appeal :D

Ssshhh, you cannot say like this. A lot of forummers here will blame PAP for this and that even when they cannot shit.

It was an honest mistake!

I'm beginning to suspect that he was late on purpose. He wanted to withdraw the team and find some excuse to do it. Reason? That I don't know and should be investigated. It's unbelieveably ridiculous to be late for an international sporting event at 3 p.m. with his experience at such events.
