It appears that unlike many other restaurants, his restaurant does not levy a service charge, and accordingly, it would be fair for customers, guests and patrons, to give a generous tip to his staff.

Or just do it the Buddhist Lodge way: eat and drink for free, but wash the plates and cutlery yourself. Donations are welcome.

No service charge and customer can choose to tip any amount.

Which labour-intensive jobs are not back-breaking? Should we tip them all? He can always go to the US if he wants his staff to get tips.

Blue & white collar workers have their pain & stress in their own ways. Physical & mental stress are equally bad for our health.

Job like F&B is backbreaking. I agree. But after they knock off from work, they are free. No more stress.

I think is a fair point…. Instead of having to have to give a 10% service charge, a customer can give any amount of “TIPS” to the serving staffs or crews…. This is not just to rewards the F&B staffs but also shown a token of appreciation from the customer.
Personally I think by operating “Orange & Teal” also give CSC a more positive image

The main issue is the service charge does not go into the service staff as tips. It's taken as the restaurant profit. Either the service is good or bad the pay remains the same. No different to working in McDonald's. N since n the service charge goes into the restaurant profit. That also means it's fraudulent activity by the restaurant. Furthermore, F&B service staff are paid very low rates as the tips make up a huge component of the pay. But this gives the service staff incentives to work harder. In singkieland...work good or bad still same pay so why bother?

Most singkies do not work in FnB...as such the welfare of its workers are no interest to the ppl...as such more foreigners will b needed to work in the industry

Towkay Chee can certainly afford to pay his staff better. He now has two outlets within 2 years.

tipping should never be part of the sinkie dining sexperience. once it goes down that path (of no return) it opens up a can of worms from simple eateries to fast food joints, from food courts to hawker centers. in u.s. it’s now selectable during payment, from 18% onwards. tip suggestions are even printed on meal invoices. plus there’s an additional 4% to 5% sextra sexpenses for welfare of service staff depending on city. some restaurants automatically add 18% to 20% to bill with no choice for customers. if you don’t check you may add additional tips on top of the autotip. now customer is obligated to tip for to-go or take-out and food delivery. you order, wait, and pick up a cup of boba tea at the counter, cashier screen prompts you to pay tips. you order take-out dinner at sushi joint, cashier screen prompts you to pay tips on top of price of meal plus tax. they just hand you a bag of food. you’re not even served at a table. you grab a bun and pay at bakery counter, cashier screen prompts you to pay price, tax, tip. the only eateries not charging or prompting you for tips are fast food joints. these fast food franchises don’t even have jars for you to drop coins or cash. and service staff at these franchises are the lowest paid as most are latina migrants. this tipping nonsense at non-fast food joints in u.s. is getting out of hand.

that’s why he should not pass the proverbial buck and responsibility of paying his staff to customers with the notion of tips. either pay them more or charge customer more, or both. his eateries cannot be the only business in sg prompting customers for tips to make up for lack of pay of his staff. stupid.
