Me think the service charge needs to b clearly defined. The restaurant charge 10%. Is it given directly to the wait staff or used as profits? If used as profits....abolishing it n raising port prices would b more efficient. However I think such practice remains due to making it easy to scam customers. Cause customers have the mindset that have to pay 10% more. However if no service charge n the bill goes up by 10%. The increase is harder to hide. So 10% is like a reserve profit...easy to get n custs won't complain (as much)that’s why he should not pass the proverbial buck and responsibility of paying his staff to customers with the notion of tips. either pay them more or charge customer more, or both. his eateries cannot be the only business in sg prompting customers for tips to make up for lack of pay of his staff. stupid.
