sang nila utama vs sun yat sen

generally no PRC is impressed by our Chinese spoken or written. I am always questioned by my PRC counterparts which province i was born in or did I migrate to Sinkieland...n I received disbelief look when I told them I am Sinkie...

None of the 2 - Sang Nila nor SYS are major players in our history...to be precise.

Sang Nila Utama made a fool of himself and all subsequent Singaporeans are stuck with his foolish mistake. Sir Stamford Raffles had no idea for a better name and liked the anglicized Singapore (from Malay Singapura) better than reverting to the original name Temasek. The rest is history.

my history a bit rusty.

in the end, yat sen died from TB and it was chiang kai sek who fought the communists and established taiwan. in history, taiwan was like heaven and china was still hell and now hell wanna take over heaven.

Established Taiwan? What a term to use to describe the KMT who lost the civil war and fled to Taiwan with tails between their legs. They might not even be able to hold on in Taiwan if not for the US to interfere.

Taiwan has grown well economically but their level of corruption is in no way inferior to their relatives back in the mainland. Just that maybe they know how to cover up better.

the sun yat sen wayang probably is another gimmick to bluff rich PRCs that one way or another sgp played a part in their history.

our forefathers played a significant role. Kuomintang and Sun Yat-sen always claimed that overseas Chinese were the "mother" of the revolution. the funds and men for a dozen or so uprisings against Qing in 1900s had mostly came from overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia ( primarily Malaya and Singapore), North America, Hongkong and Japan. Singapore served as the Tongmenghui headquarters branch for Southeast Asia.

Bro so it's true that 晚晴园 was where Sun Yat-Sen kept his mistress?

Sun Yat Sen was a big canon fairy. He married Song Qinling 25 years younger than him for the power and money. Her father Charlie Song was the real brain and power but was assassinated. Qingling and her other Song sisters used him as big canon fairy front to carry on the ambition of Charlie because in those days, especially after bad Cixi experience, it was hard for public to accept women to play lead in politics. SYS had no idea or direction about politics about. He just enjoyed the fun without really knowing whats going on or what could go on. Song sisters provided the script for his rhetoric. Even Commies acknowledged him founder of new China. Because his such a good blurfuck big canon fairy happy go lucky figurehead so that Commies could direct supporters wrath againt their real foe, Chiang Kai Shek (hubby of another Song sister Meiling) LOL

Charlie Soong was not assassinated but died at a relatively young age. Lke Sun Yat Sen he too was of Hakka heritage. His children are some of the most prominent and powerful people in modern Chinese history. Beside the famous Soong sisters and their rich and powerful husbands, one of his sons T V Soong was a Harvard graduate and briefly the PM of Republic of China.

He was assassinated lah. They kept it mummed up because he was assassinated by own people, another faction in KMT.

india got lions? tot buffaloes and tigers. lions?? no kidding!

Yes. And they're still there. In a reserve known as the Gir Forest.

That's India though. Sg doesn't have lions, only Merlions.

Cheers!

Singapura was suppose to have been named by sang nila after he thought he seen a "lion" and hence singapura or lion city was evolved. it was imo the beginning of singapore's history. in my era, we did study roughly stories of sang nila but it was more like a fairy tale. things like the attack of flying fishes and how boatmen overcame that by using banana tree stumps.

after the educational system changed (for the worst) subjects such as history, geography and civic study were no longer available. it's now english, maths and science - the kind of subjects that only entail to making money.

singaporeans have to re-psyched to know our roots then there would be stronger sense of belonging and rapport.

hmm..maybe 10 - 20 years...school children will read that LKY can actually fly and carry Singapore on his shoulders and raise it up from depths of the sea.

the 7th Fleet to neutralize the Taiwan Strait was actually a smart move by the Communists agents in US state of department on the pretext of saving Kuomintang Taiwan but the real purpose was to prevent and safeguard Communist China coastal provinces from being attacked by KMT forces while the majority of CCP armies were in North China and Manchuria supporting the Korean war. the US officials reached an agreement with Chiang Kai Shek not to harass or attack the Chinese mainland without their approval. the Chinese Nationalists after retreating to Taiwan still held hundreds of islands near China southern coastlines and maintained an naval blockage stretching from Guangdong to Jiangsu. from Zhoushan Islands outside the mouth of Shanghai, KMT airplanes can take flight and bomb Beijing and Tianjin.

as a result of US intervention, the Chinese Communists had no worries about a second battlefield in her rear door other than the Korean war.

The Asiatic lion also known as the Indian lion. The only place in the wild where the lion is found is in the Gir Forest of Gujarat, India.

Hunting of lions was a popular sport with the British Colonialists and Indian Royalty

You're insightful and right. The 7th fleet works both ways. It prevents PRC invasion of ROC on Taiwan as well as disallows an ROC counter attack on PRC mainland. That's US objective to keep two Chinas and the notion of an unified China ambiguous and unpracticable. Taiwan is gateway to Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa. A successful ROC counter attack on PRC would have even worse consequences for the US and Japan. ROC would become the premier power in the Far East long ago.

Sang Nila Utama might have been on some magic Mushrooms as there are lots of them in Indonesia. So technically he might had been tripping.

i doubt at that time CCP has any energy left to cross the China Straits to actually invade Taiwan...even if they manage to land troops, they won't last long.

Sang Nila Utama must have been smoking weed to think that he saw a lion in Singapore. Weed supplied by Drifter's great great grandfather who kutok him at 10 ounces of gold per ounce of weed. Sometimes, Drifter sees dragons in Japan too. And he keeps chasing them until he fell into the sea, but always saved by his wife calling for ambulance and police. ;) :D

Chiang was not interested to retake the mainland or prevented to do so by US naval forces? Thought all along that after KMT retreat to Taiwan, Chiang did not plan to stay long on the island and harboured hope to retake China mainland by force with the help of US forces. It was only in the late 60s that Chiang knew his dream was not tenable. This was way during those early years, Chiang did not really develop Taiwan economicaly but put all resources into preserving his military capabilities. If not for that, Taipei would have been the financial capital of Asia and Taiwan a major manufacturing centre. Let us not forget that among the talent that followed KMT to Taiwan were people who were top bankers and industrialists from the mainland at that time....
