In Teochew, Popiah means “thin pancake”. Thin skin and rich ingredients is what make a good Popiah!

1. Hock Hai (Hong Lim) Curry Chicken Noodle

Hock-Lai-Curry-Chicken-Noodle.jpg

An old-timer at Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre, Hock Hai (Hong Lim) Curry Chicken Noodle is hands-down one of the best places to get Curry Chicken Noodles. The curry has a wonderfully rich texture, containing a perfect mix of lemak and spice while not being too thick! The consistency is more similar to Laksa, and is more palatable and easier to slurp than curry.

Each bowl of noodles comes with a generous helping of ingredients, including thinly-sliced strips of tau pok (fried beancurd) and potato chunks that are well-soaked in the savoury curry. Thick, moist cuts of chicken breast meat complement the curry perfectly and gives a clean bite to the strong flavour of the spices.

Location: #01-58, Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre, 208 New Upper Changi Road, Singapore 462208
Operating Hours:
Mon – Sun: 9.30am – 10.30pm

3. Hill Street Char Kway Teow

Hill-Street-Char-Kway-Teow.jpg

While there’s certainly no lack of Char Kway Teow stalls in Singapore, Hill Street Char Kway Teow is a personal favourite of ours! This particular version is absolutely worth having a cheat day for, with the crispy pork lard and firm lup cheong providing a nice contrasting texture to the silky noodles. The dish is moist, well-fried with a strong wok hei flavour, and carries a wonderful aroma which makes it impossible to resist. Be prepared for a long queue, but rest assured it will be well worth your time!
