Food Folks @ Lau Pa Sat is not only Singapore’s first locally focused food retail and F&B blended space but also the only Hawker x Street x Mod-Sin food hall housed in a gazetted national monument.
Consumers can enjoy ready-to-eat meals from 10 brands, each with their own kiosk space: Chef Kang’s, Creme and Cone, GoPizza, Li Xin, Teochew Fishball Noodles, QQ Rice, Runes, Shi Hui, Yuan, SMOL, The Grill Knife Smoke House and The Soup Spoon.

Hill Street Fried Kway Teow may sound familiar to some, due to another famous stall with the same name at Bedok. While the two stalls are not affiliated, the one located at Chinatown has its own hoard of loyal followers. With an old-school decor at the humble storefront, the old couple running the stall are first-generation owners. They lovingly prepare each plate of noodles to order, ensuring fresh, springy noodles.

It wouldn’t be a true Chinatown experience without a good dim sum option. One of the most popular stalls in this market (which is already brimming with famous stalls), Hong Kong Mongkok Tim Sum is one of the go-to places for locals to get a good and cheap dim sum fix. There were initially queues spiralling so long that they had to introduce a ticketing system. And we can see why – the ingredients are generous and the dishes are all extremely well-executed.

Where To Dabao The Best Curry

1. Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice – Curry Rice

curry-5-looshainanesecurry-@ms_serene.jpg

There’s nothing better than a hearty plate of piping hot rice drizzled over with thick, aromatic curry – and Loo’s Hainanese Curry does it better than most other places. It’s been operating in Tiong Bahru since 1946, which means they’ve been making curry for a whopping 74 years. No wonder their curry tastes so good – it’s been made with nearly 3 quarters of a decade’s worth of experience! The curry also takes 3 days to prepare, so, y’know, each plate really is painstakingly prepared for your benefit.

The first thing you taste about the curry is the fragrance of the coconut milk, followed by the richness of the spices. The taste of the ginger really shines through as well.

The curry is so good you can eat an entire plate of rice just by mixing it with the roux, but if you want to add some sides to your curry rice, check out their plump sambal prawns (these come in their own delicious prawn curry!), or their signature pork chop.
