Despite its traditional name and logo, Bai Nian Yong Tau Foo actually challenges conventional Hakka Yong Tau Foo, which the owners described as either too meaty, or too fishy due to the overwhelming prawn, pork and fish paste. Gone are the days of big, chunky pieces of yong tau foo – here, their yong tau foo are all bite-sized so you don’t feel full too fast! The pieces of yong tau foo also pair nicely with the springy fine bee hoon and light, but flavourful soup.

Are you a fan of pig’s organ soup? Well, there’s a popular pig’s organ soup stall right here in Albert Centre Food Centre! The long queue of customers go after their peppery pork organ broth, which is cloudy from its continuous boiling. It comes in a huge serving of various pork organs and sliced pork. Also, try their exclusive braised wild boar belly that is only sold after 4pm and sells out quickly. So be sure to join the queue early to get your hands on these dishes!

Rojak has long been a staple of local hawker food. Singapore Famous Rojak is one of the well-known stalls, famous for the milder, slightly sweet prawn paste that they use to coat the rojak ingredients. They also use freshly-fried you tiao (deep-fried dough fritters) and tau pok (dried beancurd puff), along with other usual ingredients like pineapple, cucumber, turnip and bean sprouts, ensuring a satisfying crunch with every bite.

Craving some good Indonesian B.B.Q chicken? The charcoal-grilled chicken legs in their signature ayam panggang are tender and marinated with a sweet-salty barbeque sauce. They serve a wide variety of chicken and fish sets to choose from – deep fried, with curry, black pepper sauce or a spicy sauce. Lastly, all dishes get a pouring of curry sauce over the rice.

Bedok Chwee Kueh originated in Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre and has since expanded to several locations island-wide – one of them being their Queen’s Street branch, Albert Centre Food Centre. These chwee kueh are so soft that they almost melt in your mouth. The preserved radish that is stewed with garlic, shallots, dried shrimp and sesame seeds to a nice brown gives the plain chwee kueh its sweet and salty flavour. You will not regret trying this stall’s chwee kueh!

This bowl of fish soup has tons of ingredients thrown in to give the broth lots of flavour. In addition to bitter gourd, tofu and tomatoes, they put in some dried seaweed as well to soak up the juices, as well as to give some bite. Plus, you get a generous portion of sliced fish, really making this bowl of fish soup worth your money.

Is it true the stock is made from pork? Curious?

I don't know, but my guess is that most fish soup stock is made from fish head and bones. But possible that there will be some stalls which also use pork for their stock.

So its a possibility. Tats wat Ah Huat told me. Nowadays, twice a week i would take slice fish soup at Al-Azhar Restaurant @ Onan road. Healthy food. Really shiok! $4.80....a bowl

Have a good, warm bowl of bak chor mee for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Really, what could go wrong? Chewy, al-dente noodles are tossed in a vinegar sauce – chilli too, if you ask for it – and topped with minced pork and spring onions. Order your bak chor mee with meatballs, as their meatballs are highly raved about!
