Wonderlane was one place to eat and look at the girls.

Anyone recall the 24 hours Prata Shop opposite to what is now Kembangan Plaza? It no longer exists but I used to drop by there after midnight for their pratas.
Yeah I agree the tenants there change hands so fast, that by now maybe already 40 tenants lol.

Yup. That place was called Dawoods and very popular in East area as one of the few 24 x 7 places then.
yep Dawoods...didnt they move to the Frankel/Changi Rd junction until they closed shop?
If one were to go to Kajang Malaysia the satay is absolutely and totally different and taste wonderful. Our Singapore satay taste like cardboard now.
yes Max is correct...the guy closed shop after a few years. I last saw him a few years ago working for Harvey Normans in Parkway Parade. Chatted with him a bit about the old 60s. I bought a few vinyls from him too although i had no turntable....went to play the songs at my neighbour's place
Yes I saw him there too, maybe he used to work at Yoahan Electrical before Harvey not able to recall well. At TBG he had a younger brother who was a bit stout. I wonder why he could not do well as he was quite well-known.
Ahhh... Max Records...that is a blast from the past....I used to listen to radio or reddifusion to wait for the song title and with my list of favorite songs ready, will bring it to Max for them to record the compilation into a single cassette tape. Kids today have it so easy with the internet and all the MP3s players etc.
Sitting here next to a window, typing this reply, with the cool air blowing in from outside, brings me back to my youth in 1970s where life was so much simpler and more enjoyable.
BTW, Max eventually moved to Katong Shopping Centre but closed down many years ago.
The old Siglap market is now Siglap Centre, also another condo cum shops complex. And indeed except for MacDonalds and Cold Storage, the rest of the place is really quiet.
The site of Katong Shopping Centre was where Katong wet-market was located.
I was borned in Frankel Estate, Yarrow Gardens.

I thought the old Katong wet market was next to old Joo Chiat Police Station or at least that side of road?

That whole area all got Scottish names....Yarrow Gardens, Jedburg Gardens, Cheviot Hill, Coldstream Ave, Burnfoot Terrace etc. Wonder if Frankel Brothers was a Scottish family?
Sorry not Katong Shopping Centre, but the newly refurbished Katong Mall.
