Reason Why Singaporeans are Angry

I just spoke to my HongKonger friend, he wants to move out of the SAR because HK is no longer the old HK he knows.

He spoke so fondly of Singapore because he worked here before. In fact, he thinks that it is even better now because Singapore has opened up more opportunities, and allowed casinos. This is unlike the past when he worked here.

I told him that I left Singapore too long ago. I also have fond memories of a country where the people are united, prosperity is shared and you work hard because the future is bright.

What has changed in the past few years?

no word can describe what has changed. he has to experience it himself.

good luck to him

Tracy, the MPs aren't angry, they are just doing their job, or trying to sound like they are committed to achieving higher standards than what is actually happening. Who wouldn't, for the pay they are receiving?

Singaporeans angry? Well, some are, some are not. Those who are angry could be attributed to high density living conditions, higher expectencies in life, and the inability to get out or do things outside the "mold" they are trapped in (eg. success seems to be related to making more and more money, not other areas like self-actualization, or to achieve in arts, sports, etc.) But this is the same all over the world, It is just life. Sometime it sucks. Smoking pot helps though.

Cheers!

the ministers are trying to push the blame on to SMRT, SBS, M1 , Singtel etc...they shd just accept that the bucket stops at their desks and do something abt the many problems

I don't understand why there are so many pessimists in Singapore. Everything is getting better, Singaporeans are living longer and getting richer, there is more good food in Singapore than ever before, there are more things to see, more places to go, the sgd is strong, air fares are cheap.

For goodness sake appreciate all the wonderful joys of life instead of constantly wasting time complaining about imaginary problems.

we are not wasting time. we are doing national service to kick out SG's problem

sit back and run through the posts again.

what have you contributed to the discussion?

There will be a problem to find three Singaporeans who could/would this.

Cheers!

......................i was driving along Mountbatten Road and saw eight foreign workers helping to resurface the road. one drove the tractor, one swept the road, three holding jelly cans of water to cool the bitumen and three others walking beside them looking important. I have seen the same job being done in australia by three australian............

The younger generation did not experience the turmoil and riots of the past and did not enjoy the progress and the fruits of the economic growth that their parents benefited from.

Remember those days when Singaporeans think retrenchment is something that happens overseas and every time a MNC retrenches overseas staff, Singapore is affected in a good way because they actually employ more local staff. And local staff means Singaporeans, and traditionally, Malaysians.

Singaporeans are angry because they are spoilt brats. They don't appreciate what a good life they have thanks to the PAP.

Singaporeans had a good life when LKY and the Old Guards were in charge, not now. Good life now belongs to PRs, FTsh, all kinds of foreigners. Sinkies are being squeezed out of jobs, schools, hospitals, etc.

How about an annual income of AUD$90,000. 4 weeks annual leave. 5 days union leave, overtime pay, double pay weekends, no need to work if outside temp is above 35C and guaranteed payrise of 3.5% pa.

So, is it a mistake to put LKY son in charge? He is a scholar, a military general and comes from the best genes SDU has to offer.
Can't go wrong ... RIGHT?

you are right. despite what the pap has "derogatorised" australia, their skilled training is excellent. i have seen tradesmen and builders who are skilled, productive and do excellent jobs.

something wrong with SG's education system?

If the bucket stops at their desks, their million$ salaries will be at stake.

that was well governed SG

That's what politicians do. Accept credit for good work done by others and blame bad work on others. I wonder why people still look to politicians to "improve" their lives.

Cheers!

The pap ministers know that things are not running well as I mentioned in Post #1.

Do you think that the ministers poor tackling of the issues in their respective ministries have contributed much to the anger?

I myself am at a loss as to why there is so much resentment, some of which I do understand and some I don't. Singapore in the past runs like clockwork, everything was a breeze. You want a HDB flat, you got it, a car, no sweat, good education, sure thing, jobs were aplenty.

My nephew finally graduated and came home back from Melbourne. His parents are very wealthy, and if he wants to he can sit on his arse and enjoy life much as he please. But he is ambitious and I could sense there is something wrong as he was moody and fed up. I could see that his parents were uneasy for they knew he was applying for a job and he was somewhat frustrated and impatient. He has been in Singapore for the past 2 months and I suppose what he was looking forward to was not what he expected.

let's resolve to get rid of the problem and restore the good life

Instead of being angry with the FTs, you should learn to be a bit more humble and learn some of their skills.

FTs come to Singapore so they can help the country economically by filling the skills gaps. You should show some gratitude rather than express your anger.

These FTsh are here in this tiny red dot because they are not wanted elsewhere. No top talent FTsh would choose SG. We get scraps of the barrel.

Where do I apply?

of course . they know it. that's why they are expressing dismays and hope that we are hoodwinked by them and blame SMRT, M1, Foreigners, etc except the pap
