Reason Why Singaporeans are Angry

It takes someone who has seen the old SG to know the mess that LHL has done

I have seen the old SG when it was still nothing more than a fishing village and swampland. I was overjoyed when LKY transformed the Island from 3rd world to 1st in less than one generation.

I am now even more overjoyed to see that LHL has added diversity and dynamism to an already wonderful country. It's great to be able to interact with people from all over the world in Singapore. In the old days, it was only Singaporeans and Malaysians.

You speak for yourself. You have an opinion. Likewise, my friend speaks for herself and she has her opinion. Are you saying you are right and she is wrong?

you are the one who is confused. to the pap foreign labour=foreign talent

Foreign labour are the banglas, thais etc in the construction and cleaning industries. Without them, Singapore would not be able to build the infrastructure and keep the place clean.

Foreign Talent are those with specific skills. EG when the MRT was being built a whole lot of Ang Moh engineers with tunneling experience were brought in. When the Hotel New World collapsed in 1986, the Ang Mohs are the ones who saved many lives because they used their skills to tunnel into the what was left of the building's foundations to rescue those trapped.

You should be grateful to the FTs. They make the lives of Singaporeans better.

I see the glass half full with lots of potential.

She she's a glass half empty with no potential.

to the pap, foreign talent is a term used to describe foreign labourers, foreign CEOs, foreign workers, foreign prostitutes, etc

you need to discuss the issues and not state your opinions.

you would be credible if you discuss whether the ministers did express their dismays. it wld be also be useful if you discuss whether they are trying t push the blame unto others. it wld also be useful to discuss whther they are in a position to rectify the many problems they have expressed dismay.

it is not useful to avoid the subject and just parrot your opinions. opinions are cheap and useless.

in a literary debate you wld get zero points

no, it is not subjective. she can see deeper than the surface and she sees the problems SG faces

Indeed there are signs of deepening anger when I chatted with many of my younger relatives during CNY. The signs are there in forums, anti-foreigner sentiments and "legal" public protests. Anton Casey was a victim of public anger directed at the PAP, and he was hanged, a symbolic gesture of a spontaneous netizens riot.

The younger generation did not experience the turmoil and riots of the past and did not enjoy the progress and the fruits of the economic growth that their parents benefited from.

But in those days, there are many many fishing village and swampland around the world.

It was a time of rag to rich (year 1930s) to rag stories.

These days, the self-made millionaires have saturate the world and how many more can be made since the wealth of the world is cornered by the few.

Let's not forget that the economies of the world took off only after US de-peg from the gold standard and issue toilet paper money.

Also, the swampland around the world are drained for development. Strange enough, flooding in cities become a problem when the swampland are drained. Development also brought about climate change, Singapore is no longer as cool as before.

I don't understand why there are so many pessimists in Singapore. Everything is getting better, Singaporeans are living longer and getting richer, there is more good food in Singapore than ever before, there are more things to see, more places to go, the sgd is strong, air fares are cheap.

For goodness sake appreciate all the wonderful joys of life instead of constantly wasting time complaining about imaginary problems.

you are showing your ignorance. continue to be so

I just spoke to my HongKonger friend, he wants to move out of the SAR because HK is no longer the old HK he knows.

He spoke so fondly of Singapore because he worked here before. In fact, he thinks that it is even better now because Singapore has opened up more opportunities, and allowed casinos. This is unlike the past when he worked here.

I told him that I left Singapore too long ago. I also have fond memories of a country where the people are united, prosperity is shared and you work hard because the future is bright.

What has changed in the past few years?

The pap ministers know that things are not running well as I mentioned in Post #1.

Do you think that the ministers poor tackling of the issues in their respective ministries have contributed much to the anger?

Tracy, the MPs aren't angry, they are just doing their job, or trying to sound like they are committed to achieving higher standards than what is actually happening. Who wouldn't, for the pay they are receiving?

Singaporeans angry? Well, some are, some are not. Those who are angry could be attributed to high density living conditions, higher expectencies in life, and the inability to get out or do things outside the "mold" they are trapped in (eg. success seems to be related to making more and more money, not other areas like self-actualization, or to achieve in arts, sports, etc.) But this is the same all over the world, It is just life. Sometime it sucks. Smoking pot helps though.

Cheers!

1. LTY is dismayed that MRTs and buses are not reliable and constantly breakdown
2. YI is dismayed that M1 and Singtel are not perform their duties
3. TCH is dismayed that civil servants are increasingly corrupt
4. GKY is dismayed that there hospitals are short of beds
5. TCJ is dismayed that employers prefer to employ foreigners
6. KBW is dismayed that housing prices are too high
7. NEH is dismayed that Singaporeans are not treating others as they would like to be treated
8. LHK is dismayed that SG's FTAs are not working well
9. VB is dismayed that NEA cant nail WP
10. HSK is dismayed that the education system is not producing employable citizens
11. CCS is dismayed that there are so many poor citizens in SG
12. The mother of all dismays is from LHL who feels that singaporeans are like a pack of hounds going after him .

But have the pap ministers realised they these are all within their purviews and the dismays show their poor performance.

Singaporeans rightly should be angry that the pap can only express dismays and try to blame others for their non performance. It's time they get off their butts and start running their ministries and serve Singapore
