my thoughts were indeed the same ...but the question why is natural selection going that direction?

Just look at this forum, there is probably a sizeable minority amongst us who are autistic to a varying degree. Many probably undiagnosed but managed to barely fit in to mainstream society. I think our PM is probably mildly autistic too.

Elon musk and neural net will make a shut in life even more appealing. He is probably autistic to a degree too. (I guess you have to be to name your kid X æ X-12 LOL)

The future is often foretold in the pop culture we consume, created by the most creative of minds. To this end for me at least, the Japanese and their manga/anime are good predictors of the future. Take your pick.

I'll be the devil's advocate here. If society bears this burden, it will come down to nurses, doctors, caregivers, parents, etc, who will have to shoulder this burden. Do we have the right to demand this of another human being? To put another human being in harm's way to support our own moral ground?

Even if they say, yes I am willing to do that to earn a salary - would you be comfortable allowing your own loved ones to make that choice?

And what if one day your loved ones are victims of such a crime? Would you still support pallative care for these patients, on the basis that they were not mentally capable of understanding their wrongdoing?

It's a cost issue fundamentally. Do we want to pay for nurse doctors caregivers to take care of them or not? If we view every life as an economic digit, of course we shouldn't take care of them.

It boils down to what type of society we want to become.

There are writers coming out to say the weak are holding us back. Eliminate them to allow the strong to thrive. This view assumes limited resources left and we should select only the strong. Perhaps this is true. Bill gates has spoken about reducing population growth rates for sustainability. Homo Deus by Harari speaks of the replacement of homo sapiens by homo Deus. There is definitely a trend of thinking that wants to cull the weak.

Are we running out of resources for the 7 billion homo sapiens? Dystopia beckons. Do we stop it or embrace it? Or do we seek out more resources in space and beyond? Or is the problem one of distribution from the failures of both capitalism and socialism? Do we really need a new smart phone every 18-24 months?

I cannot answer these questions but we can all think deeply about them.

very well thought of and maybe you are on the right track, so as to speak...perhaps ,the world had enough of our social constrains, particularly religions...autistic people do not subscribe to religions

and I did notice the wide gap between myself and how some posters here reacted to the very same issues ..I use to think in my generation wsys as simply a generation gap ...perhaps its autism that is growing slowly but surely

Life as a psychiatrist can be dangerous.

This was one reason I realized I did not want to be a psychiatrist.

With normal people if they attack you or abuse you or shout at you or rape you there is justice there is sensibility you can say hey you cannot do that! You have to be responsible for your actions bear the consequences.

As a psychiatrist if your insane patient attacks you and gouges out and eye you have to say I am so sorry that you were sick in the mind and are my eye. You need help. We will try to help you better.
