I'll be the devil's advocate here. If society bears this burden, it will come down to nurses, doctors, caregivers, parents, etc, who will have to shoulder this burden. Do we have the right to demand this of another human being? To put another human being in harm's way to support our own moral ground?
Even if they say, yes I am willing to do that to earn a salary - would you be comfortable allowing your own loved ones to make that choice?
And what if one day your loved ones are victims of such a crime? Would you still support pallative care for these patients, on the basis that they were not mentally capable of understanding their wrongdoing?
