Punggol East By-Election Later News Update

[h=1]30.11.2013-1.12.2013: Malacca Cultural Tour[/h]Updated <abbr title="Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 6:34pm" data-utime="1388486056" class="timestamp">on Tuesday</abbr>

The end of the year is always a great time for friends and family, and also the perfect time for a short getaway. Over the weekend of 30 November and 1 December 2013 the residents of Punggol East joined us for a two-day trip to Malacca, where we enjoyed beautiful scenery along the Straits of Malacca, shopping at the famous Jonker Walk, visits to a chocolate factory and bee farm, and of course, lots of delicious Peranakan cuisine along the way. We had an amazing time bonding with our residents, so if you'd like to join us for our next tour, keep your eyes peeled to this page for announcements!

In this New Year, may good luck and good fortune always be with you!

Attended my first temple dinner for 2014 last night. The dinner which was held at the open field next to Rivervale Plaza was organised by a temple in Geylang.

Such dinners are usually organised to commemorate anniversaries or deities' birthdays. Dinner as well as auctions will take place. Some organizations may engage puppet shows, opera or gei tai as a form of entertainment. Such events are usually helped out by volunteers of the organizations.

I will usually bring along a gold item for the organizer to auction and the proceeds go to the organization. This is our way of saying thanks to their invitation.

This is also one of our volunteers, Yudish,
first such dinner, I see that he is enjoying himself:)

Together with staff from TC, we did our first mediation for 2014 yesterday morning:) Most people will agree that neighbours' dispute is one of the toughest problem to solve. Most of us are also aware that neighbours are important, as the Chinese saying goes, 远亲不如近邻.

Although this does not come under the purview of the TC, we wanted the neighbours to start the year off on a good note and settle this amicably before escalating this to CMC. Both parties have been coming to me separately on the problem they faced with each other since my last house visit to the block. After 2 hours of negotiation, it was good to see the neighbours coming to a compromise and I have learned a great deal from that negotiation as well!

[h=5]Lee Li Lian (李丽连)[/h]Was at CNY light up on Sun evening, organised by AHPE TC. One of the performers, Ms Nurul, entertained the crowd with her power packed voice. What's amazing was that she sang 2 Chinese songs, 1 Cantonese and a hokkien song. What a talent!

We are starting the year with good news! I received this good news from SBS Transit yesterday. The long awaited bus service along Rivervale Crescent is finally here. Service 371 will start from 19th Jan 2014.

The first time I brought this up was via Budget 2013, (http://www.straitstimes.com/the-big...i-responds-workers-party-mp-bus-services-2013)

This request was subsequently followed up by another of my PQ (http://sprs.parl.gov.sg/search/topi...dContent43a675dd-5000-42da-9fd5-40978d79310f+), emails, residents who wrote in to LTA directly, etc.

This publicity poster will be put up at relevant bus stops along its route.

Thank you to everyone for making this possible!

Good news for residents in Rivervale Crescent!

The long awaited bus service is finally here. Bus service 371 will start from 19th Jan 2014. Please refer to the picture attached for more information.

Asked if it is even more challenging for women in politics to be mothers, Li Lian said: “Many of our female MPs today have families and still manage their jobs, and the challenges we face are no different from many other women in Singapore."

Punggol East MP Lee Li Lian is pregnant and will give birth in July to her first child, a girl. She tells Singapolitics that fellow Workers' Party MPs and other volunteers in her grassroots network are providing support to ensure that residents' needs will continue to be served. http://bit.Iy/1eGDmUU.

Met a lady age 30 at PE yesterday. She holds a Business Management Degree and is a teacher with a student care center. She enjoys being with children and loves her job very much. However, there are challenges and problems that will come her way which may have to force her to leave the industry. This is not the first time I'm hearing this and I have the intention of bringing this up as a COS cut in the upcoming Budget debate in March 2014.

If you are a teacher from a student care and would like to share your experiences and challenges, please email me at [email protected]. I may not be able to track all the comments on FB, email will be the best.

You can be assured that your name will not be quoted in any part of my speech should there be one. I would like to hear from you as part of my research for this topic. Thank you!

Conducted PECC's first food ration distribution for 2014 to our needy families this afternoon.

For the past one year our sponsors and volunteers have been sourcing and doing their best to bring this to the constituency, and will continue to do so moving forward.

Thank you to everyone for making this possible :)
