Punggol East By-Election Later News Update

[h=1]13-12-14: PECC Retro Christmas 2013[/h]Updated <abbr title="Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 11:31pm" data-utime="1387899105" class="timestamp">56 minutes ago</abbr>

Punggol East went retro as we marked Christmas on Saturday, 14th Dec, with all the yuletide merriment and good cheer the festive season brings with it. Residents from all backgrounds came down to join our MP, Lee Li Lian, in the celebrations. Even Santa made time to come down to Punggol East from his abode in the North Pole (probably Woodlands) to distribute red-and-white candy canes to one and all. They were treated to a variety of games at stalls put up by our volunteers such as Candy Crash Cans, Balls n’ Cups andTikam.

Other activities lined up such as balloon sculpting and appropriately themed face painting sealed the deal for the kids who were eager to embrace the Christmas mood. With a lucky draw contest offering handy prizes held throughout the evening, several residents had even more reason to celebrate. A magic show enthralled the children, many of whom came dressed to impress with their retro ensembles. Perhaps the most magical moment of the night, however, was witnessing the adults have just as much festive fun as their children – emotions only something as cheery as Christmas can elicit. We'd like to thank 'Bio-X Shield', our sponsor and volunteers for making this event possible. While our retro outfits were something of a blast from the past, by the time the party was over, it was quite evident that the Christmas spirit has remained the same throughout the ages.

PECC would like to wish all residents a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Voucher scheme for needy Punggol East residents takes off

BY ASHLEY CHIA
PUBLISHED: 29 DECEMBER, 10:35 AM

SINGAPORE — More than 400 needy households in Punggol East could benefit from a community voucher programme that would help offset the cost of food and groceries from participating retailers at neighbourhood mall Rivervale Plaza.

Each family will receive S$40 worth of vouchers in denominations of S$10, S$2 and S$1, which are valid for six months. The vouchers can be used in outlets such as foodcourt Koufu, Sengkang New Market and Pan-Q Confectionery in Rivervale Plaza.

The voucher scheme started in June with only a coffeeshop and a minimart in Punggol East and has since expanded to 17 outlets.

The scheme is an initiative of the North East Community Development Council and is now a collaboration with the Punggol East Citizens’ Consultative Committee Development and Welfare Fund.

Dr Koh Poh Koon, adviser of the Punggol East CCC DWF, had pushed for the ongoing scheme to come to the ward. Dr Koh had contested for the single-seat ward in the by-elections in January but lost to the Workers' Party's Lee Li Lian.

The vouchers were distributed today (Dec 29) by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also a Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

Another case of the desperate PAPies using dirty money politics to buy votes again. I wonder who eventually pays for those vouchers?:oIo:

New bus service coming to Punggol East before the New Year :)
Look out for service 654 from 20th Jan 2014. We should also be seeing some progress for the long-awaited bus service along Rivervale Crescent.

Lee Li Lian (李丽连)

2013 came and went. Is an emotional year for many. From Punggol East By-Election, white paper on population, policy changes, worst dengue outbreak, haze that's over 400PSI, Kovan double murder to the recent Little India riot.

The biggest milestone for me has to be the Punggol East By-Election. Very quickly, PECC and our team of volunteers were formed. It's heartening to note that we have most residents as volunteers. Despite our limited resources, we went on to organise events, conduct outreach, weekly MPS and house visits, set up welfare team and publish our bi-monthly PE Bulletin.

All these would not be possible if not for the collective efforts put in by the volunteers. I'm glad that we were able to pull these off in 2013.

No amount of words can describe how thankful I am to have this team of warriors.

I would also like to thank the agencies whom I've been working with to push for changes and improvements in Punggol East. I'm really happy to see that we are making some progress with bus services and childcare centre. Yes, I'm impatient for changes but I also understand that changes cannot occur overnight.

TC and contractors also played a big part in 2013. I was able to get the hang of estate management very quickly with their assistance.

On the first day of 2014, I would like to thank everyone whom I've worked with and wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!

The end of the year is always a great time for friends and family, and also the perfect time for a short getaway. Over the weekend of 30 November and 1 December 2013 the residents of Punggol East joined us for a two-day trip to Malacca, where we enjoyed beautiful scenery along the Straits of Malacca, shopping at the famous Jonker Walk, visits to a chocolate factory and bee farm, and of course, lots of delicious Peranakan cuisine along the way. We had an amazing time bonding with our residents, so if you'd like to join us for our next tour, keep your eyes peeled to this page for announcements!

In this New Year, may good luck and good fortune always be with you!
