Is talking to some of my bros who is marry. Then suddenly then I realise that the pre-school and kidergarden is almost monopolise by religion. It seems like majority of pre-school, child care is by one single type religion one. And in some area like serangoon, you have no gahmen type, only can go the religion set up one.

Wa... like this not very good right? How come gahmen don't know? Cannot everything "market forces" right?

Actually I think the more desireable schools are non-gov't owned.

You have a choice of PAP brainwashing or religious brainwashing:)
I attended a catholic kindergarten but never took up the religion. I don't think anyone that young really understands religion.

its better to trust those church teachers with your kids. In their heart someone is watching them, so the mental barrier is there and they won't mistreat your kids. in general most parents(my own friends) who sent their kids to xtain childcare agreed that the teacher there seems to be more patient and caring. its not a bad thing actually

The teachers got more "heart" because their heart is got different purpose. It is not correct to tell the religion cannot preach in its own school. But it is wrong to not give different religion people got choice not to have their children kena preach left right center.

I was a Christian when I was young. Then I grew up.

True. Pre-shool also should not be linked to any religion group unless it's mean for their believers only..

I attended a catholic run kindergarten at Marymount.

I've only got fond memories of learning some A, B, Cs, singing, playtime,...:)
Don't remember being forced to learn any religious stuff. The only religious related education I can remember getting is learning the significance of why people put wreaths on their front door during Xmas.

I went on to a methodist school. Every monday the non-christians students could choose to stay in the classroom while chapel was held in the auditorium. I didn't mind singing the hymns & listening to the sermons but never took up christianity, nor did many of my friends:rolleyes:

Don't really know what people think goes on in a religious school but personally never felt any pressure to convert :)

The Best Is Yet To Be? Or, The Worse Has Yet To Come?

What the crap! You all so lucky! My kindergarten days was about delaying going home as long as possible without getting caught. For going home meant grinding inkstone and brush calligraphy. Can you imagine how tedious it was to grind inkstone and write simple 一,二,三 on paper with broad brush? :(

But then in adult life, it paid off. Well, parents do know better.

I'm planning for the best:)

My health may not be that great but with the economy improving my shares are at record levels & I can start planning for a life outside of Spore:)

I'm from the generation where childhood mean't catching spiders, playing catching, going to the indian shop, playing with the neighbourhood kids on a schoolday, ..... :)

When I compare to todays generation where the kids have to go all those enrichment classes & end up as nerdy working units, I feel sad for the kids of today because they'll never get to enjoy their childhood like I did

To tell the truth, many of my friends only went to church so that they could meet & socialise with girls :D

Even in my Uni days it was a christian group which organised Xmas trips to Banff, a resort town. Had alot of Mysian, Spore, PRC students who took the advantage to visit Banff but don't think many got converted to christians.

Even today many join a church only to network & it's less to do with salvation. :)

That was last time. I think the new ones nowsadays more fundamentalist. I heard they send uncles and aunties to teach the kids to sing hokien religion songs so their parents can be tulan when the kids sing it at home.

Oh, I see. It's really sad when people try to convert young kids. Back when I was young most people had an easy going attitude about religion.

Then the problem is with the people running the kindergarten rather than with christianity. Very much like muslims causing the problem rather than islam:)

Play hantam bola, drink, eat and smoke at sarabat stall, climb rambutan trees etc. Catching spiders the best!

Yup, catching spiders the best! Also:

1. Rounders,
2. balloon (hop-scotch),
3. ke-ke-leh (where you throw a coin at a line drawn in the sand/m&d, carrying piggyback your friend if you lose,
4. rolling the colourful rubber ball into holes dug in the ground and picking the ball to whack your friends when it falls into your hole,
5. Teddy-bear, teddy-bear (the skipping rope thingy)
6. Flattening soft drink bottle tops, sharpen disc edges and punch two holes, attach string and pull and rotate to "fight" and try to cut your friend's disc.

All these games actually gave us very good motor skills while we were growing up as kids.

Thanks for listing them down. Brings back fond memories of the past. Hide and Seek also very challenging in the kampong where you can hide in many places. Now, I remember - use slippers for goalpost while playing with plastic ball for soccer, chatek, running relay etc. Those were the days.

Not really true. my kid is at a pre-school call Cherry Hearts at Paya Lebar area. There is another pre-school here call Apple Tree (or something like that), the more expensive one is Julia Gabriel, Montesorri, etc.

The cheap ones are more religious base or PAP base. However, there is a rule that they are not supposed to inplant religious values in class.

The pre-school is still ok... Worst is the next stage - Primary school.
Planning to enrol my kid to Hong Wen which is 300m away from my house... Heard that need to do volunteer job even is within 1km...

Better still, got relatives suggested to joining the Hokkien's "Hui Guang" in order to have confirm place....
