School bullying in Singapore

I was being asked by sec5 ncc senior where I played. I was a sec 2 student. Walked past me and purposely bang into me asked me to meet him outside after school. I and my friends felt angry That time I already mixing with my neighbourhood kids from nearby billard place. That time was still payphone and pagar era. I went to canteen auntie to borrow her Ericsson phone n called my friend. Then my school friends called their older siblings. Then during after school bullies long pants waiting outside. But my outside friends and my classmates siblings also outside. It was like 20 plus persons vs 5 bullies. Bullies changed their tone and say joking only. Face pale , I took a small rock from ground n smack straight at his left forehead, from that day they never dare to walk past me and even offered to buy us food and clear our plates. We became friends after that. He taught me 不打不相识.

I guess your point is that there are MORE of us CIVILIZED than BULLIES...& need not resort to drastic violence to resolve issues....sigh...if only barbaric leaders or the ignorant knew & can accept realities as your once bullies turned friends did...

Thank you Sir for your clear instructions on how to handle & resolve such brutal issues, & the Threadstarter for starting this important issue, as bullying in schools while common Worldwide, should NEVER, EVER be taken for granted or even deemed as ACCEPTABLE. We are CIVILIZED Humans, not beasts still living in caves or jungles....

ALL parents love their kids, regardless if rich, VIP or poor. Kids are the FUTURE of our Human Race, & while being young & naive, with MUCH to learn in order to mature into adults whom will CONTRIBUTE to our progress & evolution, at least here in Singapore - it WILL be what they had been taught during their FORMATIVE years to achieve desired results....

If not GUIDED properly, they will presume that MIGHT is RIGHT - Jungle Laws, & sadly will only continue in their formative years to bring such HORRIFIC beliefs into Adulthood....

Blame not the Teachers or mgmt staff of schools. They are NOT security personnels. Their role is to teach, but what is taught lays within individuals - kids to accept or discard, or out of stupidity or birth defects - paid no attention.

The BLAME lays within parents, for their lack in teaching their beloved kids SOCIAL Skills to progress & evolve.

Spare the rod or spoil the child, was a way of life centuries back, even today by foolish rich & VIP parents, but today, with our advancement in science, medical science & technologies, there are many other ways to PROPERLY NURTURE a beloved child EFFECTIVELY, with so many books, social media posts & especially govt sanctioned courses to handle a wayward child - let's be frank, EACH Human was a naive child too, & NONE is perfect, let alone me...

Ultimately, when bullying occurs, NEVER ever fight back. Such will only make things worse. Lay down, PRETEND pain, hurt, coma, etc as it is what bullies want to see & such method CONFUSES them, as their motive is to hurt, but not kill as they KNOW the PENALTIES for DEATH to others, even as young as they are.

Then when it is over, as suggested, get medical attention & CRITICALLY - the MOH certification & do as the helpful quoted post suggests. It WILL bring better results, as Singapore is a Rule of Law Nation & NONE - from the PM, a leader of our Nation to the toilet cleaner, each contributing to our society - is above our Nation & Civilization's laws when infractions of such occurs...

I belonged to the mental bullies.
We did silly stuff like gangster walk, badmouthing weaker students with verbal abuse etc.
The best action for the victims is of course to ignore, but in reality is hard to ignore such mental tortures on daily basis.

Then finally, one day we met our fate after getting beaten up by the Holland-tanglin halt ss gang members for whistling around Holland area. That incident was later settled by one of my classmates young uncle who was also a SS member.
You know lah those SS people anything also need to meet to settle things.

This is very poor advice. There are many places in the world where no one cares about penalties for killing you. They far outnumber the ones that do care. Living in Singapore is a protective bubble, but it is still no guarantee. There are experts who can lay out pain without killing you. You would be encouraging them not only to continue on you, but to try it on others because it has proved so effective.

Let's be pragmatic, as our founders & forefathers whom had faced FAR worse, & yet survived, thru much thoughts, hardwork & sacrifices to give us our todays...

You & me are not perfect, & have only limited abilities to SAVE the World, as much as we would want to.... However, we DO have the ability to save each loved one & relations, at least, beginning within our home, our schools, society, etc, within our own Singapore Civilization, under the Rule of Law, where none would be left behind unless they chose to...

To save our World, begins with you & me....ONE is an exponential number, & when PROVEN in its direction, no matter the difficulties & obstacles or even time, will lead to our progress & evolution of critical VALUES for survival shared, not just in Singapore, but to planet Earth, where we ALL Humankind shares....

Precisely. Pragmatic. Founders and forefathers. Not a single one of us would be here today if we just lay down and let bullies do whatever they want. Singapore would definitely not be here. As an example, LKY, for all his faults, stood toe to toe with larger bullies in the real world as well as the political world to achieve what he did. Failing that, we would be an Indonesian or Malaysian island by now.

You & me are not perfect, & have only limited abilities to SAVE the World, as much as we would want to.... However, we DO have the ability to save each loved one & relations, at least, beginning within our home, our schools, society, etc, within our own Singapore Civilization, under the Rule of Law, where none would be left behind unless they chose to...

To save our World, begins with you & me....ONE is an exponential number, & when PROVEN in its direction, no matter the difficulties & obstacles or even time, will lead to our progress & evolution of critical VALUES for survival shared, not just in Singapore, but to planet Earth, where we ALL Humankind shares....

And back to laying down for bullies. The best way to encourage bullies is to lay down for them. Once they are done with you, laying down for them will empower them to try it on others. You cannot save your world if you as a ONE if encourage bullying behaviour.

As your point on 'laying down to bullies'....perhaps one may follow the advices of a sage that lived in 600BC, whose theories were proven right not just for war, but in every aspect of life - know yourself, know your opponent, a thousand battles fought, a thousand won...

It is about SITUATIONAL AWARENESS & CONFLICT MANAGEMENT for a BETTER win-win outcome.

Think about it. The insignificant nobody me could expound upon such principles, but many would accuse of me be long winded, as usual, & is good, as it would lead critical minded to think for themselves & relate to such principles.

Ultimately, TIME is a friend, even as early as within the next hour under the Rule of Law which none is above the law to identify & capture bullies, at the least here in Singapore with multiple surveillance cams & helpful & law abidding citizens...
