Does Low Thia Khiang offer any alternative? He can say the Jobs Credit Scheme sucks, but does he have a better solution to that?

I would like to hear about it:wink:

There is. Cut taxes for all small businesses, like GST, rentals etc; increase small business low-interest loans from government and more businesses will be able to keep more of their capital, and keep more people employed. Similarly a drop in GST charges by 2% and in utilities will also help individuals.

Its to give more companies and individuals the ability to stretch out each dollar in a more effective way. And it will bypass the bureaucracy and the Noah Arks in the political and civil service, and reach the people who need the most much more quickly.

Lower demand means lesser need for staffs. Lesser need for staffs translate to retrenchment. To keep the company in operation, this is the NECESSARY step to deal with. What's the whole point of pumping money to companies to keep staffs by offering cash back for every SG worker kept in the workforce, when the actual amount required to keep them far outweights the amount which will be given back to the comapnies?

Somebody should just slap the minitoots silly.

It's simple logic, and yet nobody drawing million dollar salary is willing to face the facts.
You're right, the problem is decreasing demand or no demand, not so much the total cost of the worker.
Even if the company with no demand is given a job credit, it may still retrench the worker to save the whole of his salary, as opposed to saving the portion of the job credit. It is the profitable companies and those which had no intention of retrenching in the first place which would benefit.

Talk is cheap..
We'll see how many opposition enters the parliament.
Maybe if the opposition can attract more able people..
I really don't thinK i want to vote someone who wears slippers to the election department ..
There are many opposition candidates who are capable, articulate and wear the appropriate footwear.
Singkieporeans have simply chosen not to vote for them, out of apathy or fear or ignorance or stupidity or admiration for the pappies or for whatever reason.

All your ideas will help, probably more so than jobs credit.
At least the companies will be more viable and individuals will not suffer as much. Isn't the latter actually the main objective of all these grand plans? Sometimes I think our government don't realize that it is the suffering of the poorest people which is the crux of the matter, not whether the highly paid executive (or civil servant) goes to Thailand (or France) for his next holiday.
Another thing that can help is that while the world is working its way out of the recession and the drastic decline in demand for goods and services, the government can create more jobs, mainly on a contract or temporary basis. Create more infrastructure projects to make Singkieland safer, more efficient and more attractive, create social and community work positions to improve the country's heartware, create more positions in alternative energy, research and development, environmental planning, etc.
Some of these jobs may go away when the projects are completed or if the need reduces. When the world economy recovers, some workers may go back to their old jobs. But these are contract positions and at the same time, may add value to the long term future of Singkieland. And it will certainly help to tide Singkieporeans over this very bad period, both financially and emotionally.

If you read through the article, he pointed out the issue with the scheme and suggested amendment for those area. In fact if you go through the whole thing, it is not that he does not support the scheme but pointing to loop holes in the scheme. He did his job.

My question is on the PAP where everyone not only agree with the scheme thy even praised that it is beyond good. How can such behaviour make improvement to anything? In the first place there is no criticism to the flaws of the scheme and really explore how well it might work, we don't even need to consider making any improvments at all.

One MP even raise that Seng Siong is opening more outlets as a result of the scheme. Does it mean that it does not have enough fund to do so if the scheme is not there? Gauging from the growth of its business, the scheme is irrelevant to its opening of new outlets. the scheme only makes its profit sweeter. At the same time, I am doubtful that it will even be willing to channel the benefits to its staffs.

If one were to look at the escalation of business cost over the past 2-3 years, it not wages. In fact, wages for most have remained stagnant!

It is the doubling or tripling of rental across the whole island, no thanks to the massive property speculation created by the government:
- super low interest rates
- changing en-bloc rules so that minority owner get booted out of the own home and flooding the market with excess liquidity.
- freezing of land sales for too long
- freezing of building new HDB flats for too long
- adding to hype with F1, IR, youth olympics etc..

High property prices and rents are killing sporeans and SMEs.

job credit no use one lah.

You're right, it doesn't improve anything.
But are they really looking to improve things?

If you reduce all these things, it means less money in the well.
