Young Singaporean is weak in Chinese compare to Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

So PAP is not Anti-Communist but PAP anti Chinese:- Chinese DAP, Chinese Gerakan and Chinese Barisan Socialist.

Some said do not take bamboo beat PAP boat. It is not true. PAP is Anti-Malay UMNO.

Can PAP tell why Chinese University Nantah Ban?

Can PAP able to make Sure Nantah University is Cummunist University?

It is no answer now.

Japan able take over to USA and UK economy role, we must learn Japanese. We need a Japanese Institute in Singapore, PAP said.

Now China is raising, shall PAP lift the ban on Nantah Chinese University?

Or we need Bahasa Kebangsaan University if Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia are raising?

Poor English mean stupid.

Poor Chinese and Malay are not Stupid?

To put up such a post, you are an idiot.

Don't touch the raw nerve of most singaporeans. Most of them, their ancestors are from England. English is their first language.

Have to agree with you bro. He obviously does not know his history.

Either he is an idiot, or he is trying to use NSP's name to create racial trouble.

History or not, those that agrees with him are bigger morons

Huh? Are you talking about New Zealand or Singapore?

My ancestors are traced back to the Tang Dynasty. I'm Chinese, speak Chinese and am proud. I also speak English and some other languages.

Actually, it's a bit cumbersome to deal with commerce and internet life without knowing some English, but I deal with it. :D

why is it racist for him to bring this issue up? singaporean chinese language standard is indeed very weak.

Common sense will tell you that it will be weaker relative to China and Taiwan. Singapore Indians will tell you that their tamil is so much weaker than in India. English is also weaker than in England, Asutralia, NZ, Canada and the US.

Racists all over the world have the same problem. Unable to get the context right. They are blinded by colours and hues and the brain seldom kicks in. Every angle has to be race related.

I met 2 parents recently, both had children doing higher level languages and both were doing badly. One did Tamil and the other Chinese. When asked why they enrolled their kids for higher level, their answers were identical - for the bonus points and their teachers encouraged them to take it up.

Do the sum. Its 75% Chinese here. So is our Chinese language standard meet at least 75 percent of the Chinese language standard? Its way below par our chinese language standard.

Whose blinded? Not me.

Because the PAP is the one who has the most power in this country. And they are the one in charge of our education system and language policies.

But if you have read Scroobal's post, there are already incentives for those so inclined to further developed their mother tongue. The state encourage. But the onus is on the individual.

There is also the need to be impartial in a multi-racial society.

And a third point is a need to be economically viable in a world with reduced boundaries.

So how will promotion of greater literacy in mandarin help in preventing racial polarization yet encouraging world trade and commerce? And what more incentives are required to be given to bring singaporean chinese to taiwan or china's levels? $10,000 tax rebate for an A1 in the mother tongue?

But i guess the value of this issue to fivestars is the potential to politicise it. Is this therefore a burning issue amongst singaporeans? I would have thought "Town Council - How's Our Money?!!!" carries more political mileage.

Anyway, Happy New Year. May the New Year brings peace, more understanding and tolerance to all.

Use a simple analogy. Is taking care of one's parents when they get old, do we have to talk about incentive? Its moral obligation. The incentive factor is a afterthought.

So why is it Sporean Chinese learning Chinese language, gotta talk about incentive?

It comes down to this.

Does a Chinese Singaporean have any obligation in learning Chinese language? If no obligation, then scroobal and the lot, their stance is okay.

The political implications are best commented by those who understand the issues behind DAP, BS and others mentioned.

I am all for chinese singaporeans learning to be proficient in chinese. I think it is a good thing. I believe that even more important than the language is to know our own culture and philosophies. The language is only an aid in being able to read the original texts for ourselves and for me, to be able to watch the movies without looking at the subtitles.

So, let's end the old year on a happy note. Long Live Chinese.

And to bring in the New Year, i made a resolution to brush up my mandarin.

Happy New Year to all. It's 8:10 pm now. Attending the Countdown. Cheers.

What is more efficient to know Chinese culture and philosophies than to read and learn them in Chinese language??

Doesn't make sense for Chinese to read English translation of Dao De Jing, Romance of Three Kingdom, Tang Poetry. Just like it doesn't make sense to ask a British to read Shakespare in Japanese, or any other language rather than in English.

Using your logic, what is the % of chinese in China and Taiwan, less than 75%?
