<!-- end mm_moodcontainer div --> STOMPer monsteer88 was stuck outside Lucky Plaza's bus stop for half an hour and witnessed a woman falling into the water while alighting from the bus. It was total chaos at Orchard this morning because of the flooding, said the STOMPer.

The STOMPer said:
"I was stuck at the bus stop outside lucky plaza due the flood at Orchard. I was waiting to go for an important appointment when the water started covering the road outside lucky plaza. "The water gushed into the bus stop and I had to stand on the benches to avoid it. I waited for almost half an hour before I could leave the bus stop. "There was a bus was stuck at the junction ahead. When the bus could proceed with its journey, the water level was already so high that it made boarding and alighting difficult. "A lady fell into the water while alighting. It was a total chaos at Orchard this morning."

I saw pictures of the floods in Orchard Rd on a TV channel in Indonesia. Spore is again making the news again for the wrong reasons.

I'm old enough to remember the the many floods in the 60's in the Newton, Bukit Timah area but never in my lifetime have I ever seen it flood in the Orchards Rd area.

It shows how corrupted the PAP has become. We've seen people dying from food poisoning, the slip ups that lead to a terrorist escaping, the multi-billion dollar losses, the danger of falling windows..... All this going on & NO ONEin the PAP has accepted responsibility

Recently the PAP was talking about nuclear power & this terrifies me because a small honest mistake can kill thousands in Spore. I don't know about you but when Spore goes nuclear I'll be gone from Spore

There have been quite a few floods in Orchard Rd. In November 1976, I was traveling by bus through Orchard Rd to school when it got caught in a major flood. The passengers were told to alight and I made my way onto the then newly constructed pedestrian mall. Orchard Rd itself was a river. I got to school just in time for dismissal that day.

I can't say that I remember reading anything about it

What I do remember is the floods in Bukit Timah & newton which lasted for days since I lived in the affected areas.

The situation has in recent years improve but now you have the floods in 6th Ave, Thomson/Lornie Rd & now Orchard Rd

SINGAPORE : Singapore's national water agency, PUB, has said the flood in parts of Orchard Road on Wednesday was caused by choked drains underneath roads in the area.

At a news conference on Thursday, PUB explained that thorough investigations done by its officers found that debris was found trapped inside the culvert of Stamford Canal.

It said the heavy downpour caused debris to build up and get trapped in a drain near Delfi Orchard.

The culvert of Stamford Canal diverts water from Nassim and Cuscaden Road into two sections of Stamford Canal, which runs along Orchard Road.

The heavy build-up of debris partially trapped in the culvert caused the rainwater to be diverted to only one of two canals running beneath Orchard Road. And this caused water in the canal to overflow into Orchard Road.

PUB said the drain's capacity is adequate as it has handled previous rains of similar intensity. It will be stepping up the frequency of maintenance inspections of critical closed drains. It will also increase its maintenance inspections to monthly checks. Currently, it inspects drains every three to six months.

PUB will also install more litter traps along Stamford Canal to prevent the build-up of debris, and more water-level sensors along Stamford Canal to enable closer monitoring of unusual peaks and dips in water levels. - CNA/ms

If litter caused the flood, then who's job is it to clean the litter:confused:

Orchard is prime land the jewel of Spores shopping. Those with businesses in that area are obviously over paying. Which MP is responsible for Orchard Rd :D

It sure looks like this is yet another shining proof how the FAPee TRAITORS have mindlessly overcrowd Peesai without due consideration to the strain on the limited resources, which they are reluctant to spend money to expand on. Preferring to save the money for one Familee to feed its addictive gambling habit.

20% of the population live in private houses or condominium

hence it is quite reasonable that 11% are millionaire ma.. by asset value

U cannot become a millionaire by asset. That is ridiculous. U are a millionaire by net worth only. If you own a $1 million condo but owe the bank a $800,000 mortgage, ur net worth is only $200K, even though you live in a $1 million condo.

Technically, financial planners dont include primary property in net worth calculations. Investment or other than primary property can be included in the calculation.

Also, many people are not aware of the definition of wealth. Wealth is the ablility of someone to stop working, and enjoy their lifestyle until a certain timeframe. Therefore if you spend 60K a year and have 600K in cash/assests, you can live for approx 9 years without working, and that is your true measure of wealth.

http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/pdf/20100618/OrchardFlood.pdf

<!-- story content : start --> IT WAS just a single drain, about the width of an SBS bus. But it was so badly blocked by debris that it triggered the flooding of Orchard Road on Wednesday. The critical culvert, at the junction of Tanglin and Orchard roads, drains into two parallel channels flowing under Orchard Road - a drainage system called the Stamford Canal.

The first heavy downpour of the morning had carried debris and vegetation into the 2.7m by 2.7m culvert, starting a chain of events that led eventually to the flash flood. It was choked where it drained into the side of Delfi Orchard, so water was directed only into the side along Forum the Shopping Mall.

When a second intense rainstorm the same morning added more water to the drains within a short period of time, the canal overflowed and water gushed up to the surface of Orchard Road, causing the worst floods there in 26 years. Worst-hit was the junction of Scotts Road and Orchard Road, the lowest-lying part of the area. Near the intersection, shops at Liat Towers and the Lucky Plaza basement were flooded.

THE clean up continues in the aftermath of Wednesday's flooding, which was triggered because of a blocked drain. Worst-hit was the junction of Scotts Road and Orchard Road, the lowest-lying part of the area. Near the intersection, shops at Liat Towers and the Lucky Plaza basement were flooded.

wah, I hope u are not a financial planner give this kind of cock analysis. Firstly, I don't give a shit about what a financial planner includes or don't include. Most of them are just fucking retards anyway. They are the ones that allow/encourage their clients to borrow heavily to prepay a 99 year flat rental within 25 years

<!-- story content : start --> ONE by one, they were wheeled out of the Tong Building's basement carpark yesterday. An orange Lamborghini Gallardo. A black Land Rover Discovery. A black Mercedes-Benz S-class. All told, the cost of the cars in the long, slow parade ran into more than a million. The Lamborghini alone costs close to $800,000.

The luxury models were among dozens that were disabled after being swamped by flood waters that resulted after Wednesday's deluge. Some had stalled right smack in the middle of Orchard Road, after their owners' attempts to navigate the stretch of road came to a watery end. Others were parked in basement lots that quickly filled with flood water, leaving owners with no chance to salvage them.
