Orbigoot: last time don't study hard go to SIM, graduate cannot find full time job for 2 years!

I remembered back in 90s those days our secondary school teachers keep telling us to go to ITE.

If one cannot enter JC or Poly, going to ITE isn’t a bad choice.

ITE certificates are much more accredited than private university degrees :D

There is a grain of truth in it despite all the jokes about "It's The End". I've seen many Higher NITEC people join good companies and slowly and constantly upgrade themselves from entry Technicians to AE/E and even Managers. ITE grads starting pay tend to be lower at ~1.8k compared to SIM which tend to be ~2.4k.

The problem with SIM though is it's pretty much dead end career wise unless he/she is a good talker for Sales and/or office politic expert. Majority of them usually get trapped in the junior executive space of 2.5 - 4.0k and their job security is generally much lower than ITE due to the absence of specific skillsets and the ease of replacement by younger generic grads. A 10 year experienced NITEC Senior Technician/Associate Engineer is much more valued than a 10 year experienced SIM degree Marketing Executive.

Parents these days should have a change in mindset as if kids are not academically well to go JC or Poly after their O Level results. They can seriously consider going to ITE even it is not glamorous.

It is better to think twice in spending a big sum of money going to overseas university or private university based here.

If that degree is not accredited, it’s totally waste of time and money

SIM is for those who have already reached the upper echelons of management but lack the paper qualifications to go with the fancy titles.

It is NOT for those who are in junior positions or have yet to enter the workforce.

Another fake post as the ' fella' does not even mention the type of degree he/she has, his results (1st class , general degree ect2) and whether its a part time degree from the now SUSS or one of those 11 external degrees offered by SIM GE .
I heard you can get a external degree from RMIT in 1 1/2 years just by doing course work (no exams!).
Those insurance agents pestering you at MRT stations probably has one of these RMIT no exam degrees

"No exam degrees" - that is a new genre.

As for UOL external degrees, UOL does not get a share of the tuition fees, unlike RMIT. For UOL external, you pay the admin fees and exam fees. The examiners are not obligated to the local private schools that offer tuition, so they can fail you if you are not up to the scratch. I have come across a handful who kept sitting for the same examinations.

The threadstarter should be banned from this forum. He is adding links to an external site to get traffic. What a fucker!

It is not about glamour. It is about getting a job. If ITE grads can find jobs easily, then there wouldn't be a debate. Govt also talking cock. They themselves don't hire many ITE grads in the civil sector.

Back in 90s, yes nobody wanted to go ITE even they finished with just 1 credit in their O Level because not glamorous to let people know he/she is studying in the ITE.

As securing employment, it’s very hard to tell what the future like.

Career wise really depend on individual and luck :p

For example, there is an ITE graduate in my company. He joined as a technician then promoted to Assistant Engineer and now rose to Senior Assistant Engineer with current loser basic pay of $4000 a month and he is also entitled to claim overtime for additional hours of works performed. He is about 38 years old and a family man of 2 kids.

Yes some VITB did well. That was in the old days before the FT floodgates opened....when the late Tay Eng Soon forced companies to accept the VITB chaps.

I still remembered some VITB and ITE guys went on to study 5 years part-time local Polytechnic and earned that diploma paper well.

These older guys are really much more hardworking and less complaining then the current private university lots :)

First World Country Swiss Standard Society paying $3 per hour the writer must be a big liar.

$3 an hour.. datz exp;oitation............i pay $15 for my lousy part time FDW

CLEARLY FTRASHES HV STOLE YOUR LUNCH & FOOD

My elderly friend has been working and still working in a library for $4.50 an hour with NLB.
How did he get such a fabulous rate at $3.00 ?

At Nike Paragon now, was served by an O-level part-time staff was told they're paid $6-7 per hour

KNNBCCB this surely is fake news trying to discredit our dear PAP.

It is NOT for those who are in junior positions or have yet to enter the workforce.

Senior management executives at the "upper echelons of management" take up global e-MBAs sponsored by the company. Most won't even consider NUS/NTU/SMU post grad courses, much less waste their time in SIM mixing with other students who are mostly unemployed/never worked before/<5k salary junior levels.

graduating from SIM is not a factor in securing a job and keeping to it. It is how you package and upsell yourself to convince the employer that you fit their requirements. just look at the FTs here with degrees from the "mill"

probably this poor chap fail at all his interviews because he doesn't know how to market his skills and talents, if he does have any in the first place.

In ang mor lands. Vocational qualifications have higher demand than degree n much cheaper. N when completel diploma can get advanced standing to university n pay less in fees. I met an Oz engineer n he had electricians reporting to him. When the project was over the electricians stayed on or got jobs easily with other places n till date he still unemployed. Because electricians r more hands on n can do more things compared to the engineers who just approve plans n schematics. Singkies have dug their own graves by thinking about castles in the air n not being practical. So they look down on these low class jobs..now in the end they r unemployed because high end Jobs r being displaced by technology..n with h
Gahmen clamping down on work permits etc. Alot of so call low end work r being gone unfilled because no Singkies have the skills to do it. N some jobs in logistics etc..n warehousing...pay with OT etc can earn more than executives...n executives have no OT pay n do OT for free hor..,how many executive n managers go home at 5pm sharp every day.?

Yup sinkies and their maids. Sinkies and their FT road sweepers. Sinkies and their construction workers.

sinkies are damn elitist people (even the normal man on the street). Look down on manual labor jobs. View that these jobs should only command slave like level pay. What rot!

Someone has to do the work. Why deny people of a living wage? Screw sinkies!

To be fair...there is a difference between low level jobs n skilled jobs..low level jobs like maids n road sweepers n cleaners...should be done by foreigners on short term visas because these are dirty n dangerous n no skilled required. Let the foreigners do it. This also give the foreigners an opportunity to earn foreign currency n go back to their own countries n start a biz etc. They are here to compliment our workforce. But skilled labour etc should be given priority to locals so be it one is ITE etc. They can make a decent living. If workers r happy n economy is good
.pap will never fear being over thrown...

You have typical sinkie mentality.

You don't get it right? Today you say jobs "like maids n road sweepers n cleaners". Tomorrow it will be another set of jobs overtaken by machines.

Right now sinkieland and sinkies are drunk on cheap foreign labor. It all started like this. Maids, road sweepers and cleaners.....later it will be IT (already). then polyclinic doctors.....

slowly.....

screw you sinkies lah. Can't wait to see more of you kpkb about no more job. Taken over by cheap foreigners.

So stupid!!!!!

I take back what I said about liking your post.
