To provide added convenience of access for our students and parents, we are setting up 4 additional dedicated #COVID-19 vaccination centres across the island.
Visited the first of these 4 new vaccination centres at ITE College Central. The staff and systems are all ready to start receiving students for vaccination from 7 June!
We have been making good progress In vaccinating our students:
- In the last 3 days, more than 5 out of 6 students of the graduating cohort have signed up for vaccination. And in the last 2 days, more than 3 out of 4 of the Pre-U students have done the same .
- SMS invitations have also been sent to Primary 6 students (above the age of 12) and Secondary 1-3 students today.
- Approximately 13,000 students have taken their 1st injections as of 4 June.
For eligible students who have received the invitations, do remember to sign up for your vaccinations as soon as possible — this will help to safeguard your health and that of your loved ones.
We will continue to reach out to the students and families who need more support to register for their vaccinations.
Take care and stay safe.

Highlight of my day: Hearing from the student participants at this year’s Pre-University Seminar. We could only meet virtually this year, but it was still a lively and engaging session.
Over four days, more than 500 students from 30 schools engaged in dialogues on issues of national concern. They presented their ideas for a tougher, bolder and kinder Singapore, including how we can embrace vitality and a growth mindset in our lives, and tackle challenges ranging from water scarcity to xenophobia.
Every generation has its challenges. The younger generation will also have their challenges ahead, and the challenges will be more global in scale. It’s encouraging to see their desire to co-create a vision for Singapore’s future. I’m confident that our young generation will translate their ideas into actions, and we will be an even more proud nation when SG100 comes along. CCS

Hopefully the pre U students had some ideas on how Singapore can get itself out of a LHL-cum-CCS dominated dictatorship.:eek::biggrin:

Overseas exchange programmes and internships are key to equipping our students to thrive in a globalised world.
As part of efforts to enhance the international exposure of our students, the Youth Interns Exchange Scheme (YES) was jointly established by Ministry of Education, Singapore and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) of China in October 2019.
Originally scheduled to be launched last year, the scheme was delayed due to the #COVID-19 pandemic. But we remain undeterred and the Implementation Agreement was signed by Singapore’s Ambassador to China His Excellency Lui Tuck Yew on MOE’s behalf and MHRSS’ Vice Minister Mr You Jun this week in Beijing.
YES will help about 500 full-time students and recent graduates from polytechnics and Autonomous Universities from Singapore and the equivalent from China, to participate in overseas internships in our two countries.
Our students can look forward to updates on internship opportunities in China on the YES website (yes.org.sg) when travel resumes. CCS

Trusty running shoes that kept me on the move for last few years. Worn out and cannot run fast safely in them. But can still walk far with care.

Reflection for me on learning - it is not just about how fast, but also how far, we go. CCS

ITE College Central is the first of four dedicated MOE vaccination centres to start operations today. The next three will be progressively opened in the coming days.
A big thank you to our hardworking Ministry of Education, Singapore, Institute of Technical Education, Singapore and Health Promotion Board, Singapore colleagues for setting up the new vaccination centres quickly.
Caught up with some parents and students to hear their experiences. I asked them if the parents or students were the ones who initiated the early registrations. Very encouraged that the students were keen to register themselves early. They told me they wanted to protect themselves, their families and friends. They also said it would better provide them peace of mind in preparing for their year-end exams.
Although we must not be complacent even with vaccination, and will need to maintain our various safe management measures.
As part of the vaccination exercise, we progressively rolled out the invitations with the graduating cohorts going first. Grateful for everyone’s understanding and care to prioritise our graduating and younger cohorts in this national effort. Tomorrow, we will commence the invitations to our students in autonomous universities.

Since we began inviting our students for vaccinations from 1 June, the sign-up rate has been positive. As of today:

- Almost 9 in 10 of graduating cohorts have signed up and half of them have received their first jabs.
- 4 out of 5 students for Polytechnic/JC 1; and 5 out of 7 students for Primary 6 to Secondary 3 levels have signed up.

We will continue reaching out to our students and families who need more help to register and get their vaccinations done. CCS

A few recent incidents have sparked concerns on racism. An Indian woman was allegedly kicked in her chest and had a racial slur shouted at her, while she was out exercising. An interracial couple was allegedly accosted by a stranger and told to only date people of their own race.
These incidents are striking, precisely because they go against what we stand for in Singapore.
Most of us have grown up living in close proximity with neighbours of different races. We study and work side by side with classmates and colleagues of various ethnicities, and have forged close friendships and familial ties. In national service, we pledge to defend Singapore and fellow Singaporeans regardless of background.
In fact, about 1 in 4 marriages are between couples of different races. In Singapore, multi-racialism is not a concept, but our daily lived reality and source of pride. It is a constant work-in-progress, which we never take for granted nor will we ever give up.
In 1965, we declared at the founding of Singapore that we would build a nation regardless of race, language or religion. This is what distinguishes us as a people, with diverse roots but a set of forward-looking shared values.

As we collectively navigate the unprecedented challenges brought on by #COVID19, there will inevitably be stresses and strains. It is now more important than ever, that we stand united as a community. With the disruptions to lives and livelihoods, service and care for others is what will get us through. These are undoubtedly tough times, and how we rise to these challenges, will define us as a society – I firmly believe that it can bring out the best in us.

Racial intolerance goes against our founding values as a nation, and has no place in our society. Every one of us – parents, educators, individuals – play a part in safeguarding the treasured and hard-earned legacy of racial harmony. Our diversity has always been our strength, and we must never let it become our Achilles’ Heel.

Let us continue to treat one another with care and respect, regardless of race, language or religion.

Once in a while, Keechiu will post one of these self righteous posts just to show that he is capable of engaging in "interesting" debate. Don't be fooled by him. It's only his narrow sighted views that count.

It's just virtue signalling by a career politician to score cheap points. There will always be some fools on social media who enjoy that.
