For sights and sounds of old Singapore.
Banned for 30 years, Singapore’s only martial arts film is now on YouTube

This is historically significant in the story of Singapore film and a ton of fun. Bone-crunching combat, masks under masks, dogs looking at the camera, Satay Club in colour, Jurong Bird Park, sleazy gangster parties - it’s got it all!

Is this consider slum living?

During my early years in my kampong I remember seeing these two guys on their Vespa riding along the dirt road that lead to my house and sound their horn they have arrived and both my older sister will run out from the house giggling and hop onto their Vespa and disappear and was wondering what's going on?

Those days, the environment was different. You do not need aircon and will not sweat walking. Today, the heat emmitted from vast numbers of aircon in buildings contribute to a stiffling air. It feels like a oven.

We do sweat those days. But it dont really bother me. Used to it cos living in kampong houses no aircond. Unlike nowadays, pampered lot. Slight hot also need aircond.

And my favourite the ice cream man or a bowl of chendol or bubur hitam that comes with original coconut milk from the Indian hawker outside my school.

We do sweat those days.

I recalled that in the early 70s through 80s, temperatures can go down to 24-27 degrees C in the day during monsoon periods. Then temperature increased steadily till 28-31 in the 90s. I presume the deforestation and rapid urbanization had a role to play.

Sinkieland in the 1970s was probably very fun. Disco era, open-air cinema, casual sex without worrying about AIDS.
