If u are richer than your boss….pls keep quiet and continue to Jiak Gardenia in front of him
At every company I have worked at, there have been subordinates who lived in more expensive homes and drove more luxurious cars to work than the CEO/boss. Some of these staff received an inheritance, benefitted from an en bloc sale on their condo, a windfall or simply came from a wealthy family. Most bosses don't seem to be able to accept their employees being better off financially than them.

That CEO at my former company would make disparaging remarks to his management team about paying us too much, or warning us not to live beyond our means, if anyone so much as dared to drive a more expensive car to the office than him.

Many bosses treasure loyalty above all else, even though cronyism results in the levelling down of talent in any organisation. When insecure bosses are surrounded by submissive cronies, they do not benefit from the diverse knowledge and perspectives of competent subordinates. Top performers wish to challenge themselves in a vibrant environment, where they can grow through nurturing, support, interaction and rewards.

The reason that some members of this CEO's senior management team owned more expensive homes and cars than him was down to shrewd investments. That boss was relying almost solely on his salary.

There are many bosses who cannot stand the sight of subordinates driving more expensive cars than them. This is because such bosses hate the thought that these employees may be more intelligent than them.

The bell curve has become a hated system of appraisal since the main beneficiaries are often sub-par individuals who are graded favourably, as they pose no threat to the senior management. By extension, outstanding staff often end up in the average range as insecure leaders may not want these individuals entering the succession plan for their position.

Other Samsters proposed ordering 2 portions of $5 boneless duck rice instead, so Ah Heng cannot hide the skin and bones under the cucumber and gravy on a single $20 plate. By the way, Ah Heng is a hawker stall, so I expect more duck meat for a $20 plate.
