you don’t know huh? new employee gets stock options. newly recruited gets sign on bonuses too, not just stock options. even receptionists, graffiti artists, and masseuses at fb and google get stock options too. at google, they are called gsu’s. those who are involved in tech and r&d, especially engineers get more depending on performance and the field they specialize in. to hire engineers a tech company needs to offer stock options. otherwise no one wants to join. an engineer in the valley usually has masters or phd as a minimum, unlike the “engineer” term used in sg.
