The National Environment Agency (NEA) is inviting members of the public to provide feedback on the proposed disposable carrier bag charge at supermarkets in Singapore...

NEA seeks your views on a proposed minimum charge of 5 to 10 cents per bag. Such a nudge strikes a balance between encouraging shoppers to reduce the number of disposable carrier bags they take and minimising the cost impact on shoppers who make large purchases and lower-income households...

NEA seeks your views on the proposal that the mandatory disposable carrier bag charge at supermarkets takes effect by the first half of 2023. This will help contribute towards our objective in the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to reduce the amount of waste to landfill per capita per day by 20 per cent by 2026, while providing sufficient time for the industry to prepare for implementation...

buy online and delivered to doorstep, no need to pay plastic bag

NEA as govt/policy maker shouldn't be deciding on how much to charge.

This is bullshit, by fixing a price, they are allowing Fairprice to continue this bad habit while collecting a source of revenue. sinkies typically will "get used" to the charge and become immune to it. it is the boiling the frog on slow heat method with no intention of eradicating the use of plastic bags.

You think the high end supermarkets will do it? Its cheapo ones like ntuc again. Another rulws for peasants not for me

Why only 10 cents...want to charge might as well charge $1.

the NEA has already decided on the mandatory charge. the people's opinions are unimportant.

NEA this phua cheebye organization. They pushed through the return tray policy even though it was against public sentiment.

In fact, hawkers riled against these motherfuckers because now the cleaners don't collect the trays, but the cost of cleaners are still the same!

10. Will the cost of cleaning services be reduced or will NEA pay less for cleaning services since we now have to clear our tables?
NEA does not get paid for cleaning services. Table-cleaning services are contracted at competitive market prices by either NEA, as part of an integrated cleaning contract, or contracted by the stallholders through their Hawkers’ Association or Managing Agent.

Even with diners being required to clear up after dining, cleaners are still required to maintain and upkeep the general cleanliness of dining places, including wiping and sanitising tables, and clearing and sorting dirty crockery at designated tray and crockery return points. Hence, we do not anticipate any reduction in cleaning costs to be paid by NEA or the stallholders in the immediate term.

By adopting a ‘self-service concept’ to clear up tables after meals, diners can contribute towards alleviating the shortage of cleaners in the cleaning workforce and mitigate the upward pressure on cleaning cost over time.

foregone conclusion. already implemented in sillycon valley for over 6.9 years to rousing success. due to the 10c charge on store-provided plastic bags (10c is really a drop in the bucket for millionaire customers in the valley), shoppers prefer to bring their own bags not so much to cut cost (it’s peanuts) but to identify themselves with the atas, free-range, organic, natural, non-gmo, gluten-free, eco-friendly, locally-sourced movement. it’s the same bunch of snobs who drink blue bottle coffee at $6.9 a cup, wear $136.9 allbirds shoes, don $169 lululemon tights, go to $369 yoga lessons, ride $696 peloton bikes, and own $6.9k dogs. if you don’t carry your own eco-friendly recyclable grocery bag to the store, you’re either a clueless fob, a blue collar moron, an illegal immigrant with no sense of “climate change”, or a homeless mental case.

If NEA really wants to save the environment, they should impose penalties on companies who blatantly use plastic in their products!

This fucker Yakult removed straws, maintained same price, and kept the rest of their packaging in plastic!

But we all need the plastic for our garbage disposal. See, we already recycle
very messy in the green bin if food waste is not tied up in a bag. garbage disposal crew will have a tough time clearing the guck and mess. yucks! no wonder their pay is being increased.

you can choose to be nasty or uncivilised by throwing all the garbage without covering them with plastic bag and straight into the rubbish chute

Don't expose the ugly Sinkies for who they really are.

Sinkies in general are a bunch of cock sucking timid useless pricks who talk loud with the cleaners, but bow down like a dog with the government.

LOL, you tyrants have already made your decision, still want to act democratic by seeking public opinion. :roflmao:
